Our Furnace doesn't come one when we turn the thermostat on, how come?

we replaced the thermostat and still nothing happens. we turn on the thermostat, there's no click. there is electricity going to the unit all around and the pilot is lit. there is only a red and white wire from the furnace to the thermostat, would it be the t-stat wiring? the motherboard? maybe a fuse needs to be replaced? bad blower motor? i don't knowOur Furnace doesn't come one when we turn the thermostat on, how come?If there is a problem with the thermostat you can test by just taking the two wires going to the thermostat and wiring them together.

If the heater doesn't fire then the problem is in the furnace.

If it is an older style Day and Night furnace, look along the top of the furnace for a reset button, that is the blower limit switch.

It stops the 24 volt signal to the gas valve.

Reset the switch, check your filters, and replace if needed.

If a different brand, use a meter and check your limit switches for continuity. Replace or reset the one that is bad (no continuity).

Because of limited info. provided, diagnosis is not easy. Our Furnace doesn't come one when we turn the thermostat on, how come?a similar thing happened to me. if the thermostat itself is clicking, but the furnace is not turning on it may be a fuse.

most furnaces have an on/off switch (like a light switch) that has a fuse inside the switch. it may need to be changed. Our Furnace doesn't come one when we turn the thermostat on, how come? That depends on what is actually happening when you turn up the thermostat. It could be the thermocouple or the control board. For a step by step troubleshooting guide, check out the furnace page at my source. Our Furnace doesn't come one when we turn the thermostat on, how come?Maybe the problem is not the thermostat. Are you out of fuel. Is the filter clogged. Is the pilot lit. Maybe a circuit breaker needs to be reset. I'm no furnace expert but I would check these things before I called a repairman. Our Furnace doesn't come one when we turn the thermostat on, how come?If the thermostat replacement has mercury in it, it needs to PERFECTLY level or it won't work properly. The other thing to check is the voltage setting on the anticipator. This needs to be set to the same voltage as your relay to the burner. Look for a sticker on the box that has the RESET switch for your burner. You'll find somthing like %26quot; .2 %26quot; or %26quot;.4%26quot;. Set the anticipator inside the thrmostat to that number.

put sealant on the gasket? And about how much do you use? I just took off the thermostat housing and there was no thermostat in there. I guess that's why it always ran cold. • Where is the thermostat in My Mazda 6s?

I saw the %26quot;how to change the thermostat the easy way%26quot; and the Ehow tutorial and neither of them make much since to me. Ive just moved and have nowhere to go that wants less than 150 for what i understand is a simple job. Can anyone explain where it is is my car. Please and thanks very much.Where is the thermostat in My Mazda 6s?You follow your upper radiator hose (i think), and it will lead to a housing, inside that housing is your thermostat. Take the housing off and dont forget to put sealant on it when you put it back on. You might want something to catch anti-freeze with also, it will make a little mess

Installed new thermostat and furnace doesn't turn on?

I installed a new thermostat Honeywell brand bought from home depot, replace a malfunctioning Honeywell I installed about six years ago, same wiring set up W, Y,G, RH. The air conditioning works but the heat will not turn on. Worked well before this.

The fan turns on as well.

Could I have damaged the furnace by not shutting off the power before I installed the new thermostat by allowing wire to touch briefly?

I'm going to put the old thermostat back on and see if the heat comes on.

How can I turn on the furnace manually, crossing a few wires?

The furnace is 22 years old, not sure if its electric or gas. Looks electric to me, I use natural gas to heat the home and for the stove.

IInstalled new thermostat and furnace doesn't turn on?Hold the bus,It sounds like you mite have a Transformer Gone bad....

Home Depot also sells them. Its a universal Transformer

that changes 110v to 18 or less .An yes your A/C would work an Fan on also .

But trans, converts power an tells threm , to cut gas on

so Unit works, Hopefully...Ok its about as big as a Fist. Its silver an has -2-wires hot an ground 110v . Then out other side-2- wires low volts to thermostat. Be sure to cut Breaker OFF first. an check with meter ,can,t read one side other 110v

This should solve your problem, cut breaker it will short if not very careful.

Good LuckInstalled new thermostat and furnace doesn't turn on?it sounds like you have the wiring figured out. eep the jumper. to get heat, the only one s you really need is RH and W.

if you have a volt meter, check the stepdown transformer like the above answerer said. you should have approx 110 incoming and around 24 volts going out. its possible if you didnt kill all power, it may have shorted out the transformer bc the older furnaces didnt have 3 or 4 amp fuses to blow 1st like they do now.

How do I change this thermostat?

My house has separate furnace and air conditioning systems. The second floor thermostat is the older kind that you have to set to either %26quot;Heat%26quot; or %26quot;Cool%26quot; plus dial it to the desired temperature.

I would like to replace this with thermostat where I just set the temperature -- and the heat or A/C comes on automatically as needed.

Is that a simple wire-for-wire swap that I can do myself? Thanks. How do I change this thermostat?1. Get a t-stat that is designed for conventional heating. and one that operates on batteries so you don't get confused with having to connect a common wire.

    2. On the new t-stat. Rh will be used for the red wire coming from the furnace. and W - for whatever color is used for W on the old t-stat.

    3. Rc will be used for the whatever is used for R - on the old a/c t-stat. Connnect whatever color that goes to G on the old a/c t-stat to G on the new t-stat. and the same for Y.

If there is a jumper wire installed between Rc and Rh from the factory - you will need to remove it.How do I change this thermostat? There are the computer controlled thermostats available they run around $45 and up and use a battery. they aren't hard to install just hook up the wires and the hard part is the set-up.How do I change this thermostat?every one I have seen is either or switch has three positions heat on top cool or a/c on bottom center position offHow do I change this thermostat? The old on-off thermostats will not work for what you have planned. They run off of two conductor cable (red %26amp; white) You will need a newer dual action thermostat and seven conductor thermostat wire. You may already have seven conductor wire if you have more than one thermostat and the house has been divided into zones.

How long should my A/C run before it's reaches the thermostat setting.?

My A/C wasn't working today. I check the unit outside and the pipe running to it was frozen. I turned it off until it completely melted. When I turned it back on it took it 30 minutes to go from 80 degrees to 76. I let it run for 30 minutes at a time until it's now down to 72; which has taken about 4 hours. But when I set the thermostat just to the point where it turns on it will run for 30 minutes and I have to turn it off again because I'm afraid it's going to freeze up again. What could be the problem? How long should my A/C run before it's reaches the thermostat setting.?From your description it sounds like the evaporator coil (indoor coil) is freezing up. This can be caused be many different things.

First start with the simple things. Check your filter if it is dirty it will reduce the amount of air flowing over the coil. This can cause it to ice up. Also if you are using one of those high efficiency filters they tend to really restrict the air flow. Try using a good old fiberglass filter.

Check to make sure all your supply vents/dampers are open. Having lots of them closed will also restrict air flow and can lead to icing.

If all those things don't help it is time to call an HVAC tech. It is then likely that the evaporator coil is being starved of refrigerant. This can be caused by a bad/plugged metering device or if your system is low on refrigerant. Only a competent tech can diagnose the problem.

Good luck. How long should my A/C run before it's reaches the thermostat setting.?you need a a/c man to top up your Freon, this is the gas that cools your a/c .

should only take about 15- 20 min to cool downHow long should my A/C run before it's reaches the thermostat setting.?The outside unit chills the freon and sends it to the inside unit. The inside is supposed absorb the heat from the air running across it's coils and send the hot freon out to be cooled. The inside coils are not getting enough air over them. Filter dirty, or many dirty filters caused the coils to clog up.How long should my A/C run before it's reaches the thermostat setting.?Clean your coils?

ensure your fan is working on the furnace?

    Vents plugged?

How do I rig a window a/c to be controlled by a thermostat?

I live in a rental apt. and pretty much have to use the a/c that is provided...but it's either full on or full off which get's very frustrating...I want to %26quot;set the temp.%26quot; to 72 or something and be done with it...does anyone know any guides online for how to hook a thermostat up to one of these?

Thanks! How do I rig a window a/c to be controlled by a thermostat? You need a %26quot;line voltage thermostat %26quot; and a little wire ,12 gage , break the hot wire , Black or Red ,to go threw the thermostat . Or you need a 120\24 volt transformer and a 24 v t-stat with a single pole single through relay with a 24 v coil and break the line voltage going to the unit .How do I rig a window a/c to be controlled by a thermostat?I think you have to have a unit that has the temperature control built in, not sure if you can add to an older unit, but you may want to check the brand then check with the maker to see if this can be done.

If it is truly coming from the fan inside of the air handler, then check to see if the fan belt is still attached and running the fan inside of the air handler. How much should i expect to pay for a water pump and thermostat to be replaced on a 98 chevy blazer?

I was told i need a new water pump and thermostat for my blazer i don't know much about cars so i need advice on what to expect so i don't get ripped offHow much should i expect to pay for a water pump and thermostat to be replaced on a 98 chevy blazer? The parts might cost less than $300 from the auto parts store. However, if you get it through your mechanic or auto repair shop, they may pad the price. Then you have to figure the Chilton's price on installation.

Chilton is the book most mechanics use to give the standard amount of time that it takes to repair/replace anything on your vehicle. They charge according to the time it takes. I don't know what your mechanic charges by the hour.

Good luck! I hope you can still afford Christmas! It wouldn't hurt to call the auto shop and ask how much they estimate. If you've already left the vehicle there, tell them you want a call with the estimate before they repair the vehicle. If they call with a higher price than you expected to pay, tell them you've got to check something. Then call around to see what prices are like with some of the other auto repair places in your area. How much should i expect to pay for a water pump and thermostat to be replaced on a 98 chevy blazer?call napa instead of using yahoo answersHow much should i expect to pay for a water pump and thermostat to be replaced on a 98 chevy blazer?$200 TO $300How much should i expect to pay for a water pump and thermostat to be replaced on a 98 chevy blazer?well my brother said a couple hundred hope it helps! How much should i expect to pay for a water pump and thermostat to be replaced on a 98 chevy blazer?honestly, about 800 dollars or so. Those are hard labor to replace. Depending on how many miles are on the vehicle, you may want to consider selling it and getting something newer. How much should i expect to pay for a water pump and thermostat to be replaced on a 98 chevy blazer?Depends on your mechanic , but if your doing all that might as well replace the timing belt while you are at it . You should really call around to get the best rate and make sure they confirm with you before they begin working .How much should i expect to pay for a water pump and thermostat to be replaced on a 98 chevy blazer?Go to an independent mechanic, not the Chevy Dealer. The dealer cost will be too much. Ask some friends in your area for someone they have used. I think $300 would be a fair price, and they should put in new antifreeze and maybe replace any hoses that are worn out. Good luck. How much should i expect to pay for a water pump and thermostat to be replaced on a 98 chevy blazer? It's not cheap, lots of labor involved....if you are replacing the water pump you probably will want to think about changing the timing belt/chain also, if you haven't had replaced already. they have to take off all the same parts to do it.How much should i expect to pay for a water pump and thermostat to be replaced on a 98 chevy blazer?well the thermostat costs like 3 bucks (about what i paid for my car) and its super easy to put in. You probably know someone who could throw it in for you for free just ask around. The water pump could cost from 80-150 bucks.. but if you have a shop put it in for you expect them to throw like 2-300 dollars onto that. It takes abit longer to put in than the thermostat but if you know someone whos willing to put it in for you for like 50 bucks or so thats a better deal than going to the shop. How much should i expect to pay for a water pump and thermostat to be replaced on a 98 chevy blazer?it depends on what auto parts dealer you go to.i wouldn't use autozone parts on any of my vehicles.because autozone sends their stuff out to be rebuilt and then the part is cheaply rebuilt and sold high.i go to o'reilly auto parts they are better and they offer a lifetime warrenty on most of their parts.autozone doesn't offer a lifetime warrenty on their partsHow much should i expect to pay for a water pump and thermostat to be replaced on a 98 chevy blazer?Between $275.00 to $350.00...

TRY FINDING AN INDEPENDENT AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR SHOP INSTEAD OF THE DEALER OR ANY CHAIN STORE BECAUSE YOU WILL BE OVERALL MORE PLEASED WITH THE PERSONAL SERVICE THAT YOU WILL RECEIVE.How much should i expect to pay for a water pump and thermostat to be replaced on a 98 chevy blazer?I would say about $200-$300 parts included. They only extra parts your mechanic might suggest would be a serpentine belt, about $30.

Anyone know how to install a thermostat for an old furnace?

The furnace has 5 wires that goes to the old thermostat and one of the wires is black and labelled 4 on the old thermostat and i cant figure out what to do with it. I installed the new thermostat and i can get the fan to work but not the heat or the fan on auto.Anyone know how to install a thermostat for an old furnace? In general, if your thermostat was wired within normal standards originally, here is your color pattern:

R is usually red and is usually the hot side of the transformer.

C is usually black and is usually the common side of the transformer.

Y is usually yellow and is usually the cooling control (it turns on the outdoor unit).

G is usually green and is usually the fan control.

W is usually white and is usually heat.

I kept typing %26quot;usually%26quot; because there is a lot of variance in original installs depending on the installer and the make and model of the air handler and outdoor unit. It's a shame that you didn't label the wires before you took them off the old t-stat. Oh well, no matter. Check for 24VAC control voltage across the red wire and the black wire. Check for that first and then everything else should fall into place.Anyone know how to install a thermostat for an old furnace?you probably need a dual thermostat! it has two sencors one for each!

How should I decide what is the best for my engine ?

ThanksWhat thermostat to use for Oldsmobile Cutlass - 1982?decide what's best for the area you live in, if you live in a very hot climate choose the lowest, if its very cold in your area, choose the highest. if its in between then, you know which one....What thermostat to use for Oldsmobile Cutlass - 1982?really ive always ran 195 but really you can look at old one and pick same thing 180 woul dbe ok also i wouldnt use the lowestWhat thermostat to use for Oldsmobile Cutlass - 1982?Stock should be 195. I would use that, alot of people change to different temperatures but I always install what ever was stock on all my customers cars. I'm a mechanic not an engineer, so I leave the decision on whats best for the vehicle to them. They designed the car after all. What thermostat to use for Oldsmobile Cutlass - 1982?i would run the stock size. you would have to take it out to see what one you have. remember that just because you put a colder thermostat in your car does not mean it will run cooler. it can but it can also make it run hotter. all configurations are different. a colder thermostat will allow the water to flow more often between the radiator and the engine. this in some cars will make it run hotter because the water is in the radiator for less time not allowing it to cool down enough before returning to the engine. being a 82 olds you probably will not notice a difference with all 3 thermostats. this car only has a 2 core but is large enough which ever one you use.

First of all how much would it cost for me to do it myself or how much would it cost to have it profesional done. My secound question is how do i find my thermostat and how do i take it off? I have heard that it is easy to do but I dont know where to start. If someone could tell me how to take it off and put a new one in that would be great. How long will this take to do. PLEASE HELPHow do I put a thermostat in my car 1993 mazda mx6?Easy to do:

    About 10-15 bucks at most.

Buy a chilton manual for your car, they are great things and will describe proccess.

    Basics are:

Find radiotor hose where meets engine, should be 2 bolts on a metal housing, remove bolts lift housing, pul old thermostat, replace gasket, add gasket sealer, reseat, bolt back in place.

    Done.

Should take 30 minutes if your handy, an hour if not.

How do I put a thermostat in my car 1993 mazda mx6?Easy to do! First, open the hood and find the TOP radiator hose. Follow it from the radiator to the engine block. There is a coupling at the end about as big as you fist. There should be tow bolts holding it down. Take off the two bolts and lift it apart. Take out the thermostat and take it to the auto parts store. They will match a new one for you. Put it back in, right side up! Put on a new gasket and redo the bolts. You are done. The thermostat should cost you less than $5.00 and the gasket is less that $1.00. It should take you just a few minutes to do.How do I put a thermostat in my car 1993 mazda mx6?well i don't know how to explain it to well for you but ill try, first i need to know if its a 4cyl. or v6 engine. but follow one of the radiator hoses (probly) the upper hose to the engine and will go to the housing. the house is held on usally by just 2 bolts. just unscrew and clean the mating sufaces and put the thremostat back in the way it came off.How do I put a thermostat in my car 1993 mazda mx6?Turn engine off and allow to cool, follow your coolant lines to where it meets your engine, take that off, it's probably there, take the old one out, put new one in. DIY (pride that comes along with it) = Cost of part + Time trying to figure it out... Getting it professionally done = Cost of part + Probably like $20

My Honeywell magicstat thermostat is not heating the house at the temp it's supposed to. Why?

The furnace comes on sometimes, so I know it's working. I put new batteries in the programmable thermostat just now, and it's still not work. It's subzero outside, and the thermostat is programmed to heat the house to 72, but it's only 64 in here! The thing seems to be stuck on 64 degrees because that's where the temp in the house stays! Anyone have any ideas how to fix this?My Honeywell magicstat thermostat is not heating the house at the temp it's supposed to. Why?It holds a constant 64 degrees? It could be a defective thermostat, but I would suspect an intermittent problem with the furnace. What kind of furnace do you have? Make and aprox. age. Forced air or boiler? Electric or gas?My Honeywell magicstat thermostat is not heating the house at the temp it's supposed to. Why?could be the tstat, but more likely is the furnace...has it heated the house to 72deg in sub-zero temps in the past?.its possible that its undersized, though not likely.....you can test it by removing the tstat from the subbase and jumping out [ connecting ] the wires that presently connect to the %26quot;r%26quot; [or %26quot;rh%26quot; ] and %26quot;w%26quot; terminals,,assuming its a regular gas or oil furnace...that bypasses the tstat,,see if house temp goes up,,might take a couple hours to tell for sure...if temp goes up,,it was the tstat...if temp doesnt go up,,its the furnace...sometimes minor or intermittent problems with the heat arent noticable until it has to run continuously for a while,,then not only are they noticable, but they get worse...if its a boiler,,it could be that the radiaters capacity to disipate heat isnt quite enough.....anyway,,jump out the 2 wires and see if furnace catches up,,,fyi,,dont go to sleep with wires jumped,,,only do it while you can monitor operation......danMy Honeywell magicstat thermostat is not heating the house at the temp it's supposed to. Why?Not enough return air possibly. Change out your furnace filter and see if that helps. Check to make sure that all of your vents are open in your house. If this still does not help, I say replace the piece of junk. get a White Rodgers T-stat. You might also check to make sure that all of your dampers are open and that your duct work is hooked up everywhere. Good luck.

Will a heat pump thermostat work on a gas furnace?

we have a gas furnace and the thermostat has only 2 wires a black one and a white one...we are having an issue with the furnance comming on to heat up then shuts off then comes on and sends cool air then comes on and sends heat again...how can we stop this and just get it to heat the house regularly/Will a heat pump thermostat work on a gas furnace? You could twist the black and white wires together and see if the furnace will then stay running with continues heat.

If it does it's the thermostat, if not it's a problem with the furnace.

Sounds like maybe a limit switch shutting the burner down after a short run time then resetting and bringing the burner back on. Check for plugged filter or bad fan motor.

Could also be some other safety shutting down the burner.

Other than a filter call in a tech to properly diagnose the problem. Will a heat pump thermostat work on a gas furnace? The furnace should turn on until it goes off on H/L or the t stat is satisfied. Once it cools down the H/L closes and it turns back on. But if your blowing cold air then your fan limit switch is not working. Usually the H/L and fan limit are the same switch. Have a professional look at it and change the switch if needed. If it is the t stat just buy a new one for just heat because a Heat pump t stat has more than you need if you just have forced hot air. Will a heat pump thermostat work on a gas furnace? You could have a thermostat problem, but I bet that's not it.

Sounds like an airflow problem or a bad limit. Get someone who knows about this to check out the system and get it fixed. Will a heat pump thermostat work on a gas furnace? No.

  • When changing the thermostat is it a must to?

put sealant on the gasket? Or do you even put sealant on a gasket? And about how much do you use? I just took off the thermostat housing and there was no thermostat in there. I guess that's why it always ran cold. So Im not positive how the thermostat goes in the housing. Should the spring part be facing down, away from the upper radiator hose? The car is a 1997 Dodge Intrepid 3.5 liter. When changing the thermostat is it a must to?Ok.. the thermostat spring portion should be positioned so it's inside the engine block. It's really the only way it can go in.

If the gasket is paper material, then DEFINETELY use a gasket sealer on both sides. If you don't, you run the risk of a leak and get to do the job all over again.

The upper half of the housing is likely too small to accommodate the thermostat if it's improperly installed.

Use only a gasket, no sealant ever. When changing the thermostat is it a must to?the spring goes towards the engine, the pointed end goes towards the radiator, and you probably wont have to use a sealant on the housing if its in good shape,it never hurts though to check it and add some if needed,i usually don't have to use it on those car though they seal up pretty good, good luck. When changing the thermostat is it a must to?Dodge man and eric are right, and no sealant if gskt is rubber and if you used paper yes sealant and use a thin amount both sides. Why does the heater in our home turn on automatically even though we haven't touched the thermostat?

Our heater turned on unexpectedly in the middle of the night last night and would not shut off even after we made sure it was set to Off. We then hit the Reset button and it still didn't turn off, causing us to have an extremely hot evening.

It did the same thing today and turned on unexpectedly. After making sure it was on Off and hitting the Reset button, the heater still continued to operate. We then removed the battery from the thermostat in that room. The heater still stayed on!

How much should it cost to get a thermostat installed?

My car doesn't heat well and I bought a $10 thermostat but I don't want to get over charged. How much should it cost to get a thermostat installed? You have to drian and refill the coolant, most cars take about 40-80 dollars in coolant alone, but the job itself only takes less than an hour. You will probibly get hit for a disposal fee for the old collant also.

170 dollars to do everything shoudl be the highest you shoudl have to pay, this includes the part and the gasket. How much should it cost to get a thermostat installed? They should be able to change it in about 1/2 hour. ( Don't pay more than 1 hour labour)How much should it cost to get a thermostat installed?HI

On top of the 1hr labor there going to charge you for new anti-freeze. and a gasket

    good luck

timHow much should it cost to get a thermostat installed?depends on the vehicle and shop labor. no matter what you're going to pay the book amount of time on the specific task at hand. say it's 1 hour book at $70 labor. you'll pay $70 weather it takes him all day or 10 minutes. shops go off the book and not hourly on what they charge for the job.How much should it cost to get a thermostat installed? An hour is ok to get it fixed. How much should it cost to get a thermostat installed? You did not say what kind of car you have . Every car is different and the hour labor might be basic . If you want a better answer you have to say what kind of car and year ?How much should it cost to get a thermostat installed? As others have said, there is also anti-freeze and the gasket.

anti-freeze you don't lose a lot to change this, really unless you are already low it won't need any or just a little.

The gaskets are just like $2 - $5.

I can't really help you more. You didn't give the car as this job varies a lot.

I have done it to a chevy caviler and a Chrysler Lebaron. Both very easy, just two or three blots on the top of the engine and that is it. The chevy had two gaskets but the Chrysler had only one also.

Then I have also did it on a pathfinder. This takes work, It is behind the belts and the fan. You have to take the fan off, the belts have to start coming off just to get to it.

Expect to pay more if its not easy (like how this one is).

Also, for the price they are going to charge, you can buy the tools and do it yourself cheaper. It is standard tools only.

I do recommend getting the gaskets, they help a lot. If you can't get them, you can get things that make gaskets but you have to be careful with these and they are more work. (again the pathfinder didn't have a gasket we could get so that was a pain)

If you do decide to do this yourself, or have a friend or relative do this for you, it is easy to find where the thermostat is. Just follow the hoses from the radiator (usually the upper hose) to where it is on the engine. You should just see a housing with a few bolts holding it on.

If you do take it to a shop expect an hour to 2 hours charge (depending on the car). To save money, you can try to find a local place where people learn to fix cars. They will usually be pretty cheap (since it is students doing the working), but they should be watched by he instructor so it should still be fine. I wouldn't do anything like this for transmission or internal engine though, I do have a limit to how much I trust them (or any shop in general really).

Should the thermostat be connected to the upper radiator hose or the lower hose or does it make a difference.?

I've had the same problems with my car overheating and I've tried everything and nothing worked I mean nothing. Cars running fine without the thermostat how must time do I really have.Should the thermostat be connected to the upper radiator hose or the lower hose or does it make a difference.?Upper radiator hose. That is where the coolant flows into the engine. If the car runs fine with-out the thermostat, maybe you need a new one.

It's easy to check and see if the old one is working properly. Dro it into a pot of boiling water. If it doesn't open up you need a new one.Should the thermostat be connected to the upper radiator hose or the lower hose or does it make a difference.?upperShould the thermostat be connected to the upper radiator hose or the lower hose or does it make a difference.?You can run without a thermostat, but oyu should letthe car warm up to operating temperature before you start driving it or maybe block off air to the radiator a little bit in cold weather.

In my race cars we run no thermostat to maximize water flow and cooling. The thermostat is usually in the filler neck of the upper radiator hose on most vehicals and it is a simple mechanicial part that is disposable. They arent that expensive or hard to replace.Should the thermostat be connected to the upper radiator hose or the lower hose or does it make a difference.?upper and yes it makes a difference if it was supposed ot be lower and it was connected o upper then the coolant would be flowing to the radiator at all times but only returning when the engine got hot

now when it is on the top the same coolant is in the engine until it heats up so you are saving fuel because when your car is cold it runs rich to heat it up faster so if it heats up quicker it can save fuel

Going green without turning blue? How to set thermostat?

I have a programable thermostat that has settings for weekdays and weekends and 4 settings - wake leave return and sleep. I try to keep it comfortable in the house, but I also want to be energy efficient. I live in NJ and the winters can be cold - any suggestions on what i should program it to?Going green without turning blue? How to set thermostat?Find the lowest comfortable temperature you can live with, and keep it near that temperature at all times. It's good to turn it down a little while you're not home, or while you're sleeping, but it takes more energy to heat up a place than it does to maintain the heat.

Also, try to seal up any place that might allow air leaks. If you have newer windows, they're probably OK, but if you have older windows you should get that plastic stuff to cover them. I can't think of what the real name for it is, but basically it's like saran wrapping your windows. The pack comes with sheets of thin clear plastic. You cut it to size, stick it around the window, and use a hair dryer to shrink and tighten it. It works wonders.

Use door snakes (again, I can't think of the proper name!) at the bottoms of the doors that lead outside, or to a shared hallway if you have one of those.

Check for leaks in the floors. I lived in a first floor apartment with really old wood floors once, and I'd get drafts coming through the tiny cracks in the floor. My boyfriend sealed them with some kind of stuff that looked like clear caulking. Sorry, can't think of the name.. I'm 3 for 3! But, someone at a hardware store could probably help you.Going green without turning blue? How to set thermostat?I try to keep our thermostat set at 65 or lower. If you get cold you can always put warmer cloths on. The lower you can set it the more money you will save and the better off the environment will be.Going green without turning blue? How to set thermostat? When I had a programmable thermostat, I set it to turn on to about 71 from just before I woke up in the morning until just after I left for work; then it dropped to 67 and warmed back up to 71 for when I came home in late afternoon. At night, it dropped back down to around 68 or so.

Im curious what other people say as this is a perpetual argument in my house now!Going green without turning blue? How to set thermostat?Get a nice sweater or jacket you couldn't otherwise afford and pay for it from the money you save by turning the heat down. I keep mine around 40 most of the time, but might heat the bathroom and it makes me cook lots more than I usually would. Nothing warms a house like a couple loaves of fresh bread every day.Going green without turning blue? How to set thermostat?Set is as low as you can be comfortable in. Personally my thermostat is set to 62掳F. You can always put on more clothes if you're chilly.

Another thing to keep in mind is that it's more energy efficient to have the thermostat at a low temperature when you're gone, and set it to warm up right before you return home. If the heater is running while you're away, the energy is just being wasted as the heat escapes outdoors. Setting the themostat to heat the house up over a short period of time before you return home minimizes the amount of heat lost to the outdoors.Going green without turning blue? How to set thermostat? At night the thermostat is set to 50 degrees F and when it's time to get up we go to 68 and when the house is largely empty we have it set to low 60's until early evening when it goes up to 68 again. 68 is the new 72.

Need Expert Help--How do I Install a new thermostat for a oil-burning furnace that does NOT use forced air?

We moved into an older home that has an oil-burning furnace that distributes heat through a radiator system rather than forced air. The existing thermostat worked but was difficult to read and set timers for so we tried to install a new thermostat; now we can't get EITHER thermostat to work. We got a honeywell, which may have been a big mistake b/c they offer NO help on weekends AND their website is down as well. Also, we put fully charged rechargeable batteries in the new thermostat but the low battery symbol kept flashing, but since we can't get the old one to work now either, I don't know if that's the real problem. I am so flustered with this and we can't get help until Monday unless we pay emergency fees. Any real help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.Need Expert Help--How do I Install a new thermostat for a oil-burning furnace that does NOT use forced air?First of all get rid of the rechargable batteries, they are only 1.2V instead of the 1.5 you get from regular batteries. The low battery light will go out.

Next on most oil burning fireplaces you only have 2 wires going to your thermostat. Make sure everything is working by connecting the 2 wires together. The boiler must fire and run in this condition. If the boiler does not turn on then you have something else causing it not to work and you will have to call someone in.

Since you should have only 2 wires connect one to the terminal marked Rh and the other to the terminal marked W. Check your manual to confirm. this should allow the system to operate.

Where can i find a rheostat /thermostat for my ball python cage?

im getting a under tank heater and need to know where to get a Thermostat, Rhestat, or Dimmer Switch? do you just plug them in to the uth of how does this work?Where can i find a rheostat /thermostat for my ball python cage? You can find a Rheostat at any specialty pet store, like Petsmart. All you have to do is plug the UTH to the Rheostat and then plug the Rheostat into the wall. Easy. The Rheostat has a turning knob that will allow you to adjust the power going to the UTH, which will in turn adjust the temp the UTH produces. Dimmer switches work the same way, but I am not familiar with how to connect them to the UTH.

A thermostat will take it one step further. Once you have everything connected, you can set the thermostat to the desired temp and the unit will control the power going to the UTH, creating the desired effect. You don't have to fiddle with any knobs to get the temp right.

Check your manual that you are setting it properly, pushing the right buttons. You may not be actually setting it right. Even though you pushing the buttons to go to a certain temp. it has to be %26quot;set%26quot; in order for it to stay there.

Being your in a codo, you maybe able to ask someone in your home owner association for help if you don't have the manual.

Try going online to search for that brand. Google it.

Thermostats are easy enough to replace and cost around $30.00 and up.

:-)Why won't the thermostat in my condo stay set at the temperature I set it?If you had mentioned the thermostat model, it might have been possible to look up the manual on the Internet, but since you do not, well. Guessing below.

It must be a programmable thermostat and there are a number of reasons why it might change.

Some have remote controls and someone is messing with your mind, are you alone when you change it. If you are not look at the person who likes it colder. - possible but improbable

When you make your change you do not save the changes and the thermostat reverts back to the previous setting. - This sounds like it might be the problem.

You do not tell us how you are trying to change it, most thermostats are programmable and will change at certain times of the day, and they will allow you to make a temp change that will go back to the programmed value at the next time it is supposed to change.

Do you have the manual? If you cannot find the manual or locate it online, go to a store that sells the model and ask how you can get a manual.

If you have a link to the type of thermostat you bought, that would be helpful. Is it a high end one like Ranco or Johnson?

If it has no display to tell the temperature, it may be more like a rheostat. You will need a separate thermometer with a probe on it so you will know what temperature the hot spot is. Something like this:

    http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.js

Then you just adjust the heat up and down until the thermostat levels off at the right temperature, ~90 degrees F.

How do you set the jumpers on a 6030 ritetemp thermostat?

I have no idea what a jumper is and how to set one. I have four wires (Y,W,G,RH). There is also a red wire that was connected to the RH and RC on the old thermostat so i connected it just like that on the 6030. The instructions don't explain much about the wires. The only thing that doesn't work is the heat. My house is all electrical. Please HelpHow do you set the jumpers on a 6030 ritetemp thermostat? The red wire was the jumper. Try not hooking it up and see if you get heat. Also make sure that you hook the wires up per instructions that came with the thermostat. Generally Y to Y, W to W, G to G, and R to R

    How to wire digital thermostat?

I'm replacing my analog intertherm thermostat to a hunter digital. Wiring codes do not match up. Intertherm wires coded as G, O, Y, E, X, R. Hunter coded as Y1, W/B, Y/O, RH, RC, G. I have a Trane unit. How to wire digital thermostat?Go to the furnace itself and see what colored wires are connected to which terminals on the board.

These will be the only wires you are concerned about, and you want to verify the labels of the terminals on the furnace itself.

Besides, you want to confirm that the colored wires are in their typical use.

I believe, can't be positive, that the Trane board will match the Hunter terminal codes.

Here is a handy link for t-stat wiring and codes: http://www.toad.net/~jsmeenen/wiring.htm

    G'luck!

On edit: If you can provide the terminal names and colors of the wire connections to the Trane board, I (or another) can tell you which terminals on the t-stat to connect.

A model number of both the Trane and Hunter unit would be helpful also.

How hard is it to change the thermostat on your car?

All of my fluids are topped off, and the defrost works and the a/c works.. but the heat doesn't work. Is that the thermostat? How hard is it to change the thermostat on your car?seems to me like you have an in-line valve to your heater core that is closed. look under the hood, find the lines that go to the heater core and see if there is a valve, the cable from inside may have come loose. there also might be a cable to the duct that has come loose under the dash area, good luckHow hard is it to change the thermostat on your car?Depends what kind of car...generally they are very easy to replace. How hard is it to change the thermostat on your car? It's easy in mineHow hard is it to change the thermostat on your car?Could be, but could be a number of other things too. If your car is overheating then it is most likely the thermostat. It's very easy to replace. Takes about 10 minutes depending on where it's located. How hard is it to change the thermostat on your car?depends on the car if its easily acsesable a piece of cake. unless you do like i did once and used the wrong bolt and broke it part way down. then you need a drill and tap(ps where the world did spell check go?)How hard is it to change the thermostat on your car?It is very basic, and yes, even you can do it ! Wait until after the engine has cooled. Toward the front of the engine, right on top,( in most cases) there is a big hose. It goes from the radiator to a metal thing that looks like a small softball. There are 2 bolts that hold it down. Unbolt them and the thermostat is right there for you to pull out and replace. Make sure it goes in right-side-up. Take carefull notice as to how it looks before you remove it. Make sure, also, that the gasket is still complete. Good Luck !How hard is it to change the thermostat on your car?Probably not if the defrosters work. Sounds more like the cable that switches between heat,A/C,etc.Or possibly a vaccuum line is off,(change your radio lately?).How hard is it to change the thermostat on your car?your thermostat allows the engine to maintain it's operating temperature.

If the thermostat is locked open (broken) the engine would have a hard time heating up. Your temperature gauge would stay in the %26quot;blue zone%26quot; and the heater/defroster would blow out cool to warm air.

If the thermostat is locked closed (broken) the engine would overheat. Your termperature gauge would be in the red zone soon after getting on the highway. Your Heater would be producing lots of hot air.

So if both your defrost and heater settings are producing just warm air and your temperature gauge stays in the cold/warm zone, it's probably your thermostat.

If the defrost pours out hot air, but the heater does not (they use the same source for heat, the heater core) then you have a broken or damaged flap in the dash that is not allowing the hot air to go through the heater ducts.

To replace your thermostat, go to your local automotive store and pick up a repair manual. It will walk you thru the steps to replace the thermostat. It is usually located in the top front of the engine, held on with two bolts. You may have to drain your radiator to make this repair. The antifreeze is resuable, so don't throw it away unless it's really cloudy, then recyle it.How hard is it to change the thermostat on your car?your thermostat has nothing to do with heated ventalation it mearly controls the flow of coolent from the radiotor to the block the problem you are stating is a heater core and its most probably blocked or just jacked up so to fix this you will have to take it out and either flush a stream of water or get a new one which might be cheap or most likely cost you an arm and a legHow hard is it to change the thermostat on your car? It's not hard, but the thermostat controls the temperature of the engine not the operation of the heater? Good Luck!!~:)=

How do you change a head gasket in an 89 Honda Accord LXi? Also how do you change the thermostat on this car?

Can you change the Head Gasket by yourself or is it a complicated job for the mechanic only? Where is it located on a 89 Accord engine, and what tools would i need if i am doing it by myself?

Also, is the thermostat easy to replace on this car? If so, is it easily accessible within the engine? Where is it located, and what tools do i need for the job?How do you change a head gasket in an 89 Honda Accord LXi? Also how do you change the thermostat on this car?Well I will try to answer the thermostat part. Simply follow the large hose out of the top of the radiator until you get to the engine. There will be a clamp holding the hose onto a metal piece that has two bolts. Remove the clamp and the bolts. The thermostat is underneath and should be easily removed and replaced. Some vehicles have a gasket that is replaced at same time, and should come with the replacement thermostat. Simply reverse the process to install and refill any lost anti-freeze with standard 50/50 mix of antifreeze/water. IF you don't know where the radiator is, this repair is best left to a mechanic.

Unless you have a torque wrench, I would leave the head gasket to a mechanic.

Ok your head gasket is located between the engine Header and engine you take both of them a part the gasket is between them. I just installed a programmable thermostat. I set it for 68 degrees F while I'm home and 62 degrees F while I'm at home asleep, but during the day while I'm at work, how low can I safely set it for our kitty? Thanks. What is the 'lowest' temperature I can set my thermostat for my cat while I'm at work? Our cats go outside in the winter, and it's below 50 (Los Angeles). Give your cat a box that's just big enough for her to lie down comfortably, with a blanket for her to curl up on, and an opening that's big enough for her to climb in and outm but otherwise enclosed. Inside the box, she'll be warmer, and without a %26quot;draft%26quot; to steal the warmth. What is the 'lowest' temperature I can set my thermostat for my cat while I'm at work?i'd say 65 would be just about right while you're at work, and have it go back to 68 about a half hour before you get home, that way it wont seem so chilly for your kitty and yourself.......we keep ours set at 68 day and night especially since cold weather has come to ohio........What is the 'lowest' temperature I can set my thermostat for my cat while I'm at work?If you leave the thermostat around 65 to 68 degrees all the time, you would be saving MORE energy.

She would be fine at 62 or even lower, but make it so you don't have to crank it up when you get home.

Cats live outdoors in all kinds of weather. They curl up and keep warm, plus they have fur (hair). What is the 'lowest' temperature I can set my thermostat for my cat while I'm at work?62 degrees during the day would be okay for kitty. Instead of heating the whole house when no one is home, it is programmed to go very low during the day and also at night while sleeping. I bought a heating pad for kitty and put it on the chair where she sleeps, then placed a thin blanket over top and turn it on low. I measured the temperature and it is about 100-101, perfect for a cat. She loves it. It has become her favorite spot whether the house heat is up or down. Makes a lot more sense than heating up the entire house, just make sure it's not too hot. What is the 'lowest' temperature I can set my thermostat for my cat while I'm at work?We leave our thermostat set on 50掳 all the time. My thermostat will not go as low as i want?

I have an older house and they thermostat is one of those round ones about 3 inches in diameter. I've heard that u an keep your house as low as 50 degrees without damaging pipes. So I'd like to keep it that low. The problem is that if i turn my thermostat as far down as it will go it only goes to 56 degrees. the markings go down to 50 so Im wondering is there a way to somehow adjust this. I was wondering what the 2nd thermostat (inside the fridge) is used for? There is a single compressor and there is not any separate fan for the fridge unit. what is the work of the 2nd thermostat? does it have any use or is it a dummy :DWhat does the 2nd thermostat inside a frost-free refrigerator do that has a single compressor? It controls airflow from the freezer to the refrigerator compartment. It in not really a thermostat, rather it is just an air valve it adjusts. What does the 2nd thermostat inside a frost-free refrigerator do that has a single compressor? It controls the temp in the fridge probably by running the fan at needed without starting the compressor.

    How to replace a thermostat?

Is it difficult? I'd like to switch from an analog to a digital thermostat that is programmable. How to replace a thermostat?Make sure the stat you purchase is made for your type of system. Many are built for various applications and may need to be programmed for your particular use.

First, turn off power to your furnace to insure you do not fry your transformer. Then write down the connections to your old stat before disconnecting them. If you have enough wire, clip off the old ends and restrip the wires so they don't break off when tightening the terminal screws. Connect wires to the same terminals as the old stat. Usually (if you have A/C) the stat terminals will be marked r,w,g,y, and rc or common. There may be additional terminals for a stat that may also be for heat pump applications which would require wiring for a reversing valve.

Attach the back plate (subbase) to the wall with appropriate anchors and use a small level before tightening the mounting screws in their slotted holes then simply connect the wires and plug the stat to the backplate. Turn the power back on and you are set to program.

There are many different digital stats available. If you know someone in the HVAC business, for about 100 dollars Lennox and Honeywell both make excellent models with simple user interface which you can program from your easy chair then plug to the subbase.

Whatever time program settings you use, give 1/2 hour lead time for temp change and do not program night setback more than 8 degrees. It takes more energy to reheat or recool the average home 10 degrees than you would save in energy by setting back. I also reccomend leaving the fan in always on mode when you can. This stops air stratification (uneven temps from flooor to ceiling) and provides maximum filtration. The models I mentioned have a 30% fan on setting to save energy and give better air filtration.

If you live in a cold climate a good addition to your system is a duct mounted humidifier. Not only does it alleviate dry air problems such as static, and sinus dryness, you can heat at a lower temperature and still feel comfortable

Installing a new stat is not as difficult as it may sound, I'm sure you can do it, good luck. How to replace a thermostat?Tell you the truth I don't know. How to replace a thermostat? The difficult part comes in wiring. If you or someone you know is good with wiring, you should be fine. Some houses are wired different, you need a volt meter, and you need to be able to figure out which wire goes where. Just because the instructions that come with the new one will tell you to %26quot;put the red wire here%26quot; for example, your house may not be wired like it should and the red wire may not be the right one. (I have lived in several old houses and this is a major issue). But the wiring is all there is to it except for a couple of screws. Good luck. How to replace a thermostat? Before you do, talk to some of the people who have ended up switching from a digital to a simple analog thermostat (seriously)! How to replace a thermostat? Most of your thermostats come with a wiring guide, the guide will tell you where to put certain color wires. How to replace a thermostat?Easy.

Take off the cover and mark which wire is hooked to R, W, G and so on. Most likely you have three wire. Mount the new thermostat and reattach the wires to proper terminal, R to R, W to W and so on.

Don't forget to program your thermostat to suit your needs. Have it turn the heat down about 30 minutes before you normally go to work and start to bring the temperature up to your comfort level about 30 minutes before you get home from work. Turn it back 10 degrees at night and when you're gone and you will probably save the cost of the thermsotat in energy costs in the first week. How to replace a thermostat?Well it is simple to a point.

Take the old one off.... Making notes to the way the wires were hooked up.... Just because it says R that doesn't mean it is hook up to R on the furnace.

Put the new one on the wall and hook the wires back up to where they are supposed to be....

    Good Luck
