Having established the likely reason why my machine is overheating, I have ordered a replacement Thermostat Temperature Controller. Can anyone give me some tips on how to fit it please.

If you have to ask, are you that confident that you can do it? Perhaps you should ask several repair companies for a quote, not including the cost of the part that you will have.

What's your average thermostat temerature for your house in winter?
I live in Ontario, Canada. I am just wondering what is the average temp of your thermostat and how much does it fluctuate?
I recently moved to a house and my family is opening windows to smoke so I find the the temperature jumps a lot. They tell me I'm an idiot. Isn't it common sense that if you open the windows in winter, the heat escapes which causes the furnace to work twice as hard??
Can someone give me there take on the situation?

The engine is overheating after about thirty minutes of driving.
The oil and anti-freeze levels are fine.
The top radiator hose gets hot, as does the radiator itself.
The heater works fine, blows hot air.
From advice I received, I am gambling on changing the thermostat, but would like to be sure I'm not wasting time and money.

How do I hook a thermostat to an outside wood burning furnace?

My home thermostat is one of those old round dial jobs from the 1970s. I want to replace it with a new digital one. I have absolutely no clue about this sort of thing. Have an independent shop garage replace the thermostat before you damage your $4000 engine. Don't be %26quot;penny wise and pound foolish%26quot;!How do you change the thermostat for a 2003 Hyundai Elantra?you remove the coolant hose fitting at the engine, and it's behind there. book labor time is 0.7 hrs. the hard part is getting the air out of the cooling system- you may have to jack up the front of the car to bleed it all out. At a shop, they use a vacuum / pressure filler, which sucks all the air out, then refills it under pressure in about a minute. It may take you an hour to get it out. You'd just have to let it run. The advantage of having a shop do it, is you could probably use a coolant flush anyway. Thermostats are pretty reliable if the coolant is in good shape. You can always call around to other shops, and ask them what they'd charge. They should be able to give you a price over the phone for this, but i'd plan on spending at least $125-150. $200 isn't outrageous. The advantage of having a shop do it, is you could probably use a coolant flush anyway. Thermostats are pretty reliable if the coolant is in good shape. You can always call around to other shops, and ask them what they'd charge. They should be able to give you a price over the phone for this, but i'd plan on spending at least $125-150. $200 isn't outrageous. My window aircon's thermostat causes power to trip when it reaches the point '4'. How to make it work?
It's a Fujitsu General air conditioner, a bit old. The fan does work properly and the thermostat control knob too, upto the point marked '4'. If i try to move it up for cooler air, the MCB trips. 3. Underneath the intake manifold there is a triangular piece of metal that has 3 bolts that connects it to the other piece of metal and it has a black hose coming out of it.
4. Remove the hose and tuck it out of the way before you do anything.
5. Take the 3 bolts out of this triangular piece of metal.
6. When you remove this piece the thermostat should just fall right out of the whole that was behind the triangular piece of metal.
7. Insert the new thermostat where the old one was.
8. Hold the triangular piece with one hand while starting the first bolt with your hand.
9. Once the first bolt is started start the other 2 bolts.
10. Now tighten all the bolts.
11. Put the hose back on.

If you find that it is your thermostat. replace it where the other one was at in the same direction. and then you have to have some sealant that you put around the housing along with the gasket that comes with it. make sure that you have a real tight seal when you put the housing back on the motor and then tighten down the housing and then put back on the radioator hose and tighten. As a general rule, if you follow the top hose from the radiator you will find the thermostat housing at the other end. It will be dome shaped and held down by three bolts.
Before you do anything, turn the heater control FULLY ONTO HOT, to minimise the chance of an airlock, remembering that if it is electrically controlled, you may need to switch on the ignition to power the heater control, and then switch it back off after the adjustment.
Before you undo the bolts, pull the bottom hose from the radiator and drain the cooling system down by about half in order that the level falls lower than the thermostat, then refit the bottom hose.
Remove the three bolts, remove the old thermostat, clean the mating surfaces, fit the new thermostat with the supplied new seal, and refit the thermostat housing with a new gasket.
Next you must top up the cooling system again with a mixture of antifreeze and water (preferably de-ionised water) as follows:-
Top up the coolant to the max level, and with the coolant cap still removed, run the engine until the fan comes on.
Whilst the engine is running, keep a close eye on the coolant level as it may go down slightly, if so, top it back up. Look for leaks around the thermostat housing and hose, and around the radiator bottom hose.
Once the cooling fan has been on once or twice, switch off the engine and replace the coolant cap.
Job done!

How do I wire up my thermostat to run the fan only when I switch the button from auto to on?
I tried to wire the Green wire to G at the thermostat and at the furnace but the fan will not turn on using the switch that is in the thermostat. I do not have a cooling system so I want to wire it up just to run the fan when I need it. The furnace is a new Amana the terminals on the control board inside are labeled TWIN Y W R C G. To answer your question, you need a thermometer or a way to measure water temp. Put the thermostat in a water filled pan and apply some heat. Once the water temp reaches 180 degrees, or whatever temperature is stamped into the thermostat, the center of the thermostat should move or open up. Not all thermostats open at 180, some open higher. You can run without a thermostat, but it I don't recommend it. I have known people who do it all the time without any trouble at all, but I won't. It's also very easy to put the thermostat in backward. That's not good either. I wish I could tell you that exact location of the thermo. but don't know that specific model so well...but also a tip; If you plan on doing your own work buy the repair manual for it ($20) (Chilton or Haynes) It also helps with troubleshooting along with how to repair stuff. Lastly your mechanic was probably saying you need a Radiator flush. First off,,, a mercury thermostat is nothing more then an on/off switch to bring on the furnace, it works off of changing temperature warping a piece of bi metal Thu expansion and contraction,,, temp goes up, the mercury goes one way,,, temp goes down mercury goes the other way... depends on what position the heat/cool switch is in for the mercury to send power either to the furnace or the air conditioning... Second,,, since this is just a switch, it can still operate and not control at the temp you set it at if it is out of level or the bi metal is worn out ,,, you may have it set for 70 degrees and it will control at 65 degrees or 75 degrees,,,so don't compare with a another thermometer unless all you want to know is if it is controlling at the set point or not,, set the switch at heat and turn the dial to the highest setting and see if the furnace starts..third,, even if you turn it up and the switch is set to heat,, it could be the furnace that is not working and the thermostat is still doing its job,,,, I believe you need to call a qualified tech.. They do still have a use, in that they can lower the overall temperature during periods of non occupation, which is much better than turning the heating completely off. It is a simple job to install one., it will require 2 or 3 core cable depending on the type selected. Normal stats need 3 core due to having an 'anticipator' in the stat. An electronic type normally only requires two core cable. I recommend a Honeywell CM67rf programmable thermostat for full control, these are available to operate wirelessly from anywhere in the house, which keeps the wiring to the vicinity of the existing controls.

Does anyone how many hours I should set my filter warning thing on my new electronic thermostat? It's made to give me a notice of when I should change my furnace filter. How to check if central heater or thermostat is the problem for poor heating?
We have central heating, and the second floor (where the bedrooms are) is fine and warm, but our first floor, which is just one long open space divided into a living, dining, and kitchen area, is FREEZING. The thermostat is in the first floor, and when I checked it again last night, it was set to 75 degrees. However, the room temperature reading (again, as it appears on the thermostat) was a constant 65 through out the evening. Is there a way to find out if it's just the thermostat that's broken? just look the lower hose going to the engine, release 2 10mm bolts and the thermostat is there, just remove the old thermostat and place the new one with a new oring gasket and screw back
