How do you fit a Thermostat temperature controller to Bosch Washer Dryer Model WVT1260?

Having established the likely reason why my machine is overheating, I have ordered a replacement Thermostat Temperature Controller. Can anyone give me some tips on how to fit it please.

Many thanks in advance. How do you fit a Thermostat temperature controller to Bosch Washer Dryer Model WVT1260?You take the machine apart, removing the old one and replacing it the same way. If you have to ask, are you that confident that you can do it? Perhaps you should ask several repair companies for a quote, not including the cost of the part that you will have.

What's your average thermostat temerature for your house in winter?

I live in Ontario, Canada. I am just wondering what is the average temp of your thermostat and how much does it fluctuate?

I recently moved to a house and my family is opening windows to smoke so I find the the temperature jumps a lot. They tell me I'm an idiot. Isn't it common sense that if you open the windows in winter, the heat escapes which causes the furnace to work twice as hard??

Can someone give me there take on the situation?

Thanks! What's your average thermostat temerature for your house in winter?Yeah, heath moves away to places that are colder, so opening the window makes all the heath escape and the thermostat tries to compromise it by producing more warmth. Perhaps you could encourage them to smoke outside as much as possible, so it won't get cold inside?

Since we're keeping it isolated here, it's about 19 degrees Celsius during the day and 15 degrees during the night. For me, that's comfortable. What's your average thermostat temerature for your house in winter? You are right about the common sense related to open windows. When windows, doors, or even cracks are open to the outside air, there will be some transfer of interior air and exterior air. the extent of which will be proportional to the relative size of the opening, AND the speed and direction of outside wind.

Depending on how cold it is outside, the furnace could be forced to work harder than twice. What's your average thermostat temerature for your house in winter?Well hey there..I am in Ontario too! A furnace needs fresh air to work properly anyway, so opening up the window won't really make much of a difference..personally I open windows every once in a while just to let the stale air out and fresh air in on nice winter days. As for our temperature in the house..well, we have two settings..we have electric boiler infloor heating and forced air to circulate the heat, so they are set at two different temperatures.

You might just be like me...cold outside, so feel cold when window open whether I really am or not..hubby always jokes that when the sun goes down I automatically think I am cold..LOLWhat's your average thermostat temerature for your house in winter?I set mine at 67 degrees F in the day, and 62 at night, but it is usually warmer in here because we have a woodstove for most of our heat. Sometimes it burns down, though, especially at night, and the off-peak electric heat comes on. I'm in central Minnesota. I am too lazy to re-derive that stupid conversion formula %26amp; hoping you can think in fareignheit better than I can think in celsius. Stupid US just won't conform to the rest of the world, and I am a prisoner of my culture %26amp; can't estimate temps in celsius. What's your average thermostat temerature for your house in winter?Yes, your furnace is going to work harder if they are opening the windows to smoke. Our average temp is 71-72 deg Farenheit.

  • How can I tell if I need a thermostat or a new water pump for my 94 Honda Accord?

The engine is overheating after about thirty minutes of driving.

The oil and anti-freeze levels are fine.

The top radiator hose gets hot, as does the radiator itself.

The heater works fine, blows hot air.

From advice I received, I am gambling on changing the thermostat, but would like to be sure I'm not wasting time and money.

Also, does anyone know of any links which have videos or diagrams of how to change a 94 Honda Accord thermostat?

Thanks! How can I tell if I need a thermostat or a new water pump for my 94 Honda Accord?start with a thermostat and see.

all you have to do is start at the top hose on your radiator and follow it to the top of your engine. under that spot of the hose is the thermostat. loosen that and take out the thermostat.

Make sure you Have a thermostat and gasket Prior to taking it apart, unless u have another way to an auto store.

How can i relocate my central a/c thermostat to another wall? extend the wires?

I want to move my thermostat to another wall in the house. How do i got about this?

Also what are the voltages ran in these thermostats? How can i relocate my central a/c thermostat to another wall? extend the wires?when you relocate, make sure it is still on a hallway wall, for this will be your best place for the thermostat and temperature setting, and as for the voltages, it is less than or at 5 volts, just make sure unit is turned off and make a diagram of the wire location in the thermostat to avoid any mistakes. if these wires arc you make cause a surge and blow some components in your heater/blower or outside ac unit if you have oneHow can i relocate my central a/c thermostat to another wall? extend the wires?I don't know about the voltage, most of them are low voltage somewhere around 7 to 15 range. You can extend the wires as long as you don't exceed more than 30 feet or so. Use the same Gage wire and make sure to correctly mark all the wires so you don't get hooked up incorrectly after moving the thermostat. How can i relocate my central a/c thermostat to another wall? extend the wires? The voltage in the wires is 24 volts. Won't hurt you if you touch them. Easiest way to move it is go to the basement or crawlspace and find the wire going up through the floor and wall. It will probably be about the size of a pencil and may have up to 8 wires inside a plastic casing, and comes in brown, white, and maybe red casing. Turn the power off at the furnace and take the t-stat off the wall. Leave the wires sticking out of the wall. Find the place you want to relocate the tstat and get a hole in the wall and a hole in the basement/crawlspace. Get a wire of the same size as the old wire down thru the wall and over to the furnace. take each wire off one at a time and replace with the new wire. Now go up to the new wire, and replace the t-stat on the wall. hook up the wires to the same terminals as the ones you took off. They should be color-coded. Red-R Green-G White-W Yellow-Y or Blue-Y, whichever the wire has in in it. Good luck! How can i relocate my central a/c thermostat to another wall? extend the wires? The thermostat control system carries a low voltage. Never more than 24VAC. It is most preferrable to run a continous wire from the relay(contactor) to the thermostat. Use cat3 wire, you can buy it to length at any home depot or lowes. I usually pay $49 per 1000' box. I recently ran an AC controll system 300' without any negative results. The hardest part of the entire job will be getting the wire inside the wall without cutting a big hole. I suggest a 3/4%26quot; hole in the wall and 1.5%26quot; hole in the top header. Get a buddie to hold a wire in the bottom hole while you dangle another from the top(bend a hook on both wires) and basically keep moving the upper wire until the bottom one hooks it and gingrally pull it through the wall. Now take the cat3 wire and tape to the fished wire in the wall(about 6-8 inches) from the top and feed it into the wall while the other pulls until you have a foot hanging out of the wall. Pull the remainding wire across to the AC relay and if necessary fish that wall in the same manner(very carefully there is alot of other stuff in the walls near the AC/blower unit. Make sure your wire isn't laying near something hot or a phone line(by at least 18%26quot;). Turn off power to the AC system and connect the new wire same as the old.(generally you would use the blue pair and wrap the remaining 3 pairs down around the cable cover) Don't nic the wires when you strip them and terminate both ends, reenergize the AC system and viola! PS it'll take about a 12 pack of beer for the two of you to calm yourselves from fishing the wires into the wall! good luck! How can i relocate my central a/c thermostat to another wall? extend the wires? How far is the run? If it is exstensive you should consider running new wires from the indoor air handler. make sure the T-stat stays close to you return. The reason for this is that it is a true temperature and will cool/heat your home more efficently. Most ALL residential units are 24vAC.

How do I hook a thermostat to an outside wood burning furnace?

I have a USSC Hotblast 1400 and my existing furnace isn't functional anymore, I have the stove hooked into the existing duct work and the stove is warming the house (but a little too much) I want to hook a thermostat to the stove so that the blowers only kick on when the temp in the house reaches like 70 degrees but the thing is I have no idea how to even attempt this. Can anyone help me?How do I hook a thermostat to an outside wood burning furnace? You can use a thermostat designed for hot air distribution which is 110 volt. if the blower is 220 , then u can use a thermostat used for electric baseboard heaters.

Just interupt L1 that controls the motor. How do I hook a thermostat to an outside wood burning furnace? You will need to hook the thermostat to a low-voltage relay which has the capacity (i.e. contacts capable of switching 120 VAC at about 10 amps) to switch the blowers on.

It will require a thermostat, DC power supply capable of driving the relay, a secure enclosure to house the relay and wiring, and the skills to wire it safely.

You might check with the stove manufacturer and see if they have any suggestions for automating the blowers.

My home thermostat is one of those old round dial jobs from the 1970s. I want to replace it with a new digital one. I have absolutely no clue about this sort of thing. Can anyone give me instructions? Thank you!How to replace old home thermostat?Well it should be pretty straight forward (notice I said should be)

I would recommend a programmable replacement. (pretty useful)

Not knowing what you have other than an old rotary and not knowing what your going to get I would hate to get into it and give you bad advice.

Get yourself to a Home Depot or Lowe's and find someone that works in the heating and cooling department to help with your decision on what will work. Ask them what the do's and dont's are. That way you will have a basic understanding then when your ready to install it there will be a hot line # you can call and they will be able to walk you step by step in correctly wiring it up.

    Tools needed:

2 smaller screwdrivers one regular(flat blade) and one Phillips (star) depending on the included screws

Make sure before you start you turn the system off at the breaker and when your finished turn it back on and check to make sure it operates.

    You can do it,

    Good luck

.How to replace old home thermostat? The new digital one will come with instructions. More than likely, your old thermostat has two wires connected to it, it is a fairly easy job to replace it.How to replace old home thermostat?the instructions on the new one will probably make referance to a red and a white wire. this is the normal color code for a heat only 24v system. so assuming you have a 24v system (you probably do) then the 2 wires currently connected to your round thermostat should connect to the r and w spots on the new one. just read the instructions, they are usually really good, but often include a bunch of different variations that won't apply to you.How to replace old home thermostat? Here are instructions to replace a thermostat...

How do I replace a thermostat on a 1998 Oldsmobile Silouhette?

I need to find the location for the thermostat on the engine? How do I replace a thermostat on a 1998 Oldsmobile Silouhette?it is easier to replace if you remove the throttle body but not necessaryHow do I replace a thermostat on a 1998 Oldsmobile Silouhette?it is in the housing on the engine side of the upper radiator hose. you will need to take the air filter tubing off to get to it.

1 Drain some coolant into a clean container until the coolant level is below the thermostat housing.

Remove the upper radiator hose connection from the thermostat housing.

2 Loosen the housing bolts and remove the housing.

3 Remove the gasket and scrape it carefully from the surface of the housing and the mounting surface on the engine. If the gasket remains on either of the surfaces, there will probably bea coolant leak after reassembly. Some engines use a rubber O-ring to seal a thermostat housing.

4 Compare the size of the thermostat to the old one. They are of different sizes, types, and temperature ratings.

5 The temperature rating is stamped on the sensing bulb on the bottom of the thermostat. The temperature bulb faces the block.

6 When replacing a thermostat, be sure that the thermostat fits into the groove in the block or outlet housing. If the thermostat is installed upside down, the engine will overheat.

    7 Install the gasket.

8 Reinstall the thermostat housing. Refill the system and run the engine or pressure test to check for leaks.

9 When the engine has reached operating temperature make sure the thermostat opens.

10 You should be able to see coolant circulating within the radiator.

11 Another way of checking thermostat operation is to feel the top of the radiator hose or use a thermometer or multimeter with a temperature probe to confirm that the coolant is warming up.

12 If the engine is overheating, but the top hose is still cool to the touch, the thermostat is stuck closed and must be replaced. How do I replace a thermostat on a 1998 Oldsmobile Silouhette?it should be right on the intake. follow the top radiator hose and you will find it. to change it, drain some anti-freeze out and i dont know about your, but some of the thermostat housings has a (0) ring, not a gasket, dont put anything on the (0) ring, just replace it, and some cars, like mine has only 1 bolt to take out. after you change the thermostat, put the housing on and the bolt, watch you dont overtighten the bolt, or you will strip out the threads, the intake is only aluminum.

Have an independent shop garage replace the thermostat before you damage your $4000 engine. Don't be %26quot;penny wise and pound foolish%26quot;!How do you change the thermostat for a 2003 Hyundai Elantra?you remove the coolant hose fitting at the engine, and it's behind there. book labor time is 0.7 hrs. the hard part is getting the air out of the cooling system- you may have to jack up the front of the car to bleed it all out. At a shop, they use a vacuum / pressure filler, which sucks all the air out, then refills it under pressure in about a minute. It may take you an hour to get it out. You'd just have to let it run. The advantage of having a shop do it, is you could probably use a coolant flush anyway. Thermostats are pretty reliable if the coolant is in good shape. You can always call around to other shops, and ask them what they'd charge. They should be able to give you a price over the phone for this, but i'd plan on spending at least $125-150. $200 isn't outrageous. A lot cheaper than a new engine. How do you change the thermostat for a 2003 Hyundai Elantra?really easy most anyone can do it for under 50 bucks ...first go to any parts store and just ask forwhat you need like buy coolant and new thermostat and new gasket you wil fin dit by following top radaitor hose back to motor remove hose and the housing hose was attact to most offen two bolts and lift might have to tap it or pry it lightly to brake the gasket loose will then scrape off old gasket and repalce how you pulled it out not hard right refill radiator crank car watch flow drop and rise add more coolant as it needs it check for leaks pretty much sam eway on every car made and never go to a dealer unless theres no other shop open they wil be the highest and really any shop would do here is a few videos of how its done really every easy job maybe a good hour work on most cars you can look under hood and see where top hose is and tell how easy it is if you can see bolts just remove and your got it

Take it to the carwash and wash it out (this should be done yearly) with the cover on. If that doesn't take care of it, take it to someone who repairs air conditioners. A wire may need to be replaced, if not the compressor. But try washing it out first and see if that helps. Ours used to have a big %26quot;CLUNK%26quot; whenever it would go into a cooling cycle, that cleared it right up and we can run it full boar wiht no problem.

I know where it is but I am not used to working on newer cars. How do you replace a thermostat on a 2003 Dodge Stratus?it depends on what engine you have. if it is a 2.4 follow the top hose to the engine to find the thermostat housing. if it is a 2.7 it is on the lower hose behind the alternator. if you only have heat at higher engine speeds, there is air in the cooling system, not a thermostat problem. there is an airbleed screw on the engine. How do you replace a thermostat on a 2003 Dodge Stratus?if ts a 2.4 engine those are fairly easy to do you just follow the hose down to the housing on the 2.7 engine it harder to do its behind the alternator and its harder to get too,if you,ll drain some of the coolant out of it before you start to do this it will stop you from loosing all of it,there's also a bleed screw on it that will help bleed the air out of it ,that sounds like what might be wrong with yours it may have air in it,if it was the thermostat bad you probably wouldn't get no heat from it at all, good luck with it,an merry x-mas.

Some people are quite comfortable at 68*f, while older people generally are comfortable at higher temperatures due to poor circulation, thin blood, etc. Please remember that the colder you keep your home, the more it will cost you. It costs less to keep a home cool when the outdoor temperature is mild, than when very hot. Also remember, your t-stat is nothing more than a %26quot;smart switch%26quot; to turn your unit off and on, it DOES NOT actually control the the air temperature coming out of your vents. Generally a 15 to 20 degree difference between the return and supply air is normal. How do I set my thermostat to cool my house better?first off not to sound condescending!! your t-stat does nothing to cool your house. it is just a control that senses room temp and cuts the hvac system on/off according to your temp. setting. personally i like to set my a/c t-stat to 75 degrees in the summer and my heat 70 in the winter. i find both of these temps offer me the best in comfort and efficiency. the use of ceiling fans through out your house can help provide comfort without causing you to have a stroke when you get the electric bill. also a whole house fan is excellent. i also use an attic fan in my home to decrease the attic temp and eliminate the heat that is trapped up there. this both prolongs my roof life and reduces my a/c load during those hot.,hot days of summer. How do I set my thermostat to cool my house better?Check out this guide: http://www.allhomerepairsyourself.com/articles-and-advice.htmHow do I set my thermostat to cool my house better?DO A QUICK CHECK. Most gas-fired systems have to warm up before coming on, so that's probably the delay you're experiencing; it has to heat the air that's already in the system before the blower comes on, or you would have COLD air coming out of the vents. Your upstairs is almost certainly warmer than your downstairs most of the time, so that may account for the differences. To check to see if it is working properly or not before replacing it. you can stick in in a pan of boiling water and see if it opens like it should. if it doesnt then replace. if it opens. then that is not your problem. Also make sure that you are using the right kiind of antifreeze. some cars take a different type and if you use the regular antifreeze that is green, you can ruin your engine. That too will cause your overheating problems if you use the wrongkind. then you will have to burp it and all kinds of fun stuff to fix it. check your owners manual or it should tell ya on the radiator.

If you find that it is your thermostat. replace it where the other one was at in the same direction. and then you have to have some sealant that you put around the housing along with the gasket that comes with it. make sure that you have a real tight seal when you put the housing back on the motor and then tighten down the housing and then put back on the radioator hose and tighten. That simple. Good luck!

As a general rule, if you follow the top hose from the radiator you will find the thermostat housing at the other end. It will be dome shaped and held down by three bolts.

Before you do anything, turn the heater control FULLY ONTO HOT, to minimise the chance of an airlock, remembering that if it is electrically controlled, you may need to switch on the ignition to power the heater control, and then switch it back off after the adjustment.

Before you undo the bolts, pull the bottom hose from the radiator and drain the cooling system down by about half in order that the level falls lower than the thermostat, then refit the bottom hose.

Remove the three bolts, remove the old thermostat, clean the mating surfaces, fit the new thermostat with the supplied new seal, and refit the thermostat housing with a new gasket.

Next you must top up the cooling system again with a mixture of antifreeze and water (preferably de-ionised water) as follows:-

Top up the coolant to the max level, and with the coolant cap still removed, run the engine until the fan comes on.

Whilst the engine is running, keep a close eye on the coolant level as it may go down slightly, if so, top it back up. Look for leaks around the thermostat housing and hose, and around the radiator bottom hose.

Once the cooling fan has been on once or twice, switch off the engine and replace the coolant cap.

    Job done!

    Very best regards

What would a vehicle temperature gauge read if the thermostat failed to open

if the thermostat failed to close

and how was the water pump driven on this engine?

thanks What would a vehicle temperature gauge read if the thermostat failed to open if the thermostat failed to ?1We do not know Year, make, model or engine size!!

#2 The temp gauge is not controlled by the t-stat, its controlled by the temp sensor , sender , and/or computer

#3 Without knowing what engine we are working with (is it a 1967 327 or a 2006 6.0L) on older vehicles a stuck closed t-stat will cause the engine to get hot and if its stuck open it can cause choke issues with the carb (if you use it to warm up you engine) and the heater(if its winter). If its a newer (computer controlled) engine it can effect fuel economy, overheating issues and engine performance.

#4 As far as %26quot;How is the water pump driven?%26quot; What engine? , It could be either fan belt driven, timing belt driven or cam shaft driven.

GOOD LUCK What would a vehicle temperature gauge read if the thermostat failed to open if the thermostat failed to ?If it failed to open, it would over heat and you would get steam. So, ever 212 F.

If it failed to close, it would be like driving without a thermostat, and the engine would never reach operating temperature.

How is the water pump driven on WHAT engine? It's usually belt driven. What would a vehicle temperature gauge read if the thermostat failed to open if the thermostat failed to ?if the thermostat fails to open then it should read hot. if it reads hot when the thermostat is opened then it could be the water pump, the radiator needs flushing, the fan not working or the heater core is plugged up. most water pumps are driven by a belt.

cost wise, if you were to take it to a garage for repair, id bank on around 1hr labour plus the cost of the stat...............ovbiously a dealership workshop will charge alot more, but as its a simple job, anywhere will do.

Is it possible to fit a thermostat to a towel rail yourself?

We have a towel rail in our bathroom that is permenantly hot when the central heating is on because there is no thermostat on it. We dont use the bathroom because there's only two of us living in the house and we have a shower room, so it is a complete waste of energy! Any one know if its possible to fit a thermostat DIY and if so, how to go about it?

    Cheers,

Jayne xxxIs it possible to fit a thermostat to a towel rail yourself? You may be able to find an inline Thermostatic Valve with the same dimensions as the currently fitted one.

But if you don't use the towel rail, why not just isolate it using the existing valves?

If you were to fit the thermostatic valve. You would need to drain down your heating system, remove the existing valve and replace with a thermostatic valve, then refil and bleed the system.

If your not sure, get a plumber, you could end up with a flood.

Good luck.Is it possible to fit a thermostat to a towel rail yourself? Its possible, it depends on how it is piped.

It may not be able to be isolated on its own without re-piping.

Wouldn't recommend this as a DIY project. Is it possible to fit a thermostat to a towel rail yourself?there should be valve on the towel rail to allow you to turn the water supply off, you made need some pliers %26amp; a strong gripIs it possible to fit a thermostat to a towel rail yourself?if there are thermostats on your other rads it is not recomended that you fit one to the towel rail as this is usually set up as a bypass, so if all thermostats shut down you still have water flow through the boiler. Without a full inspection of your system to check if the boiler has an internal bypass or if there is one on the system somewhere don't turn the valves off either, It could damage your system.

  • How do I check a car thermostat with boiling water?

My car is overheating. I put in a new thermostat, test drove it - it overheated and the coolant backed up big time into the overflow tank. A guy said to pull the new thermostat, drop it in a pot of boiling water and %26quot;see if it opens.%26quot; He said sometimes you get a new one and it's bad. So I did that. The copper button moved out some, but how do I tell if it %26quot;opened?%26quot; Should I be able to see light through it at some points? How do I check a car thermostat with boiling water?First off, if you drop the thermostat into boiling water that is at least 190 degrees, you should see the center disc move away from the outer disc.

On a more realistic note, I doubt you have a bad thermostat. What was your reason for replacement in the first place?

If the car wasn't overheating originally, more than likely you have an air pocket in the cooling system. Many cars come with a bleeder somewhere in the cooling system that allows air to escape. If you do not bleed the air out, you have a cavity with no coolant. This expands at a different rate than the coolant and can cause some serious issues with the vehicle. Please respond with more information about why you replaced the thermostat and what kind of car you have. How do I check a car thermostat with boiling water?drop new thermostat in boiling water.you should see it open up.i used to leave mine out if i had alot of problems.it takes longer for you to get heat from your heater tho.it's not best to do.it will open if it's good. How do I check a car thermostat with boiling water?Yes.

If you have an old car, like mine, and it is not an electronic thermostat (It's in line from the radiator into the intake manifold) you really don't need it.

Next, look at the structural integrity of your radiator. If it's corroded and alot of fins are gone, it isn't doing it's job and needs to be replaced.

Also do a bit of a tune up. Check and change the oil and tranny fluid. If they're low, they can cause overheating. Make sure you also have a good ground strap going from the metal of the radiator, from the attachment points, to the body of the car.

I live by the beach. About every 6-8 years, I have to replace my radiator from salt corrosion. How do I check a car thermostat with boiling water? No, no-leave the thermostat out, and put everything back to gather. Run the car for an hour or so. If it heats back up, then that was not the problem. Look at the water pump or radiator could be plugged. If it runs cold, then either the thermostat was bad or in backwards,How do I check a car thermostat with boiling water?do not run without a thermostat , you need the restriction to allow the heat transfer to take place , that's how heads and blocks get warped. try a rad flush , look at the rad for blocked tubes etc.hopefully it's just crud that the flush will get rid of, good luck. How do I check a car thermostat with boiling water?the reason it overheated and backed u pcoolant is because the system was air locked, you will need to bleed the air out of the system, some engines have a bleeder in the system up high or you can loosen a heater hose to let the air out, being careful not to burn yourselfHow do I check a car thermostat with boiling water?Lots of incorrect info out there. To answer your question, you need a thermometer or a way to measure water temp. Put the thermostat in a water filled pan and apply some heat. Once the water temp reaches 180 degrees, or whatever temperature is stamped into the thermostat, the center of the thermostat should move or open up. Not all thermostats open at 180, some open higher. You can run without a thermostat, but it I don't recommend it. I have known people who do it all the time without any trouble at all, but I won't. It's also very easy to put the thermostat in backward. That's not good either. Make sure it's in correctly and bleed the air out of the system. How do I check a car thermostat with boiling water?its also possible you have other troubles,,,check your radiator hose's,,if they feel soft and you can squeeze them together( then they are bad) when the water gets hot,the vac *** will cause the hose's to collapse and make the car over heat,,,,the radiator might be plugged up and need flushed out,,check the grill area of the radiator,,might also need to cleaned out(gets filled up with bugs over time),,make sure you have the correct amount of water-anti freeze,,,,and its also possible that the temperature sending unit could be bad giving a false reading of a high temperature,,,,as for your question on how to test a thermostat to find out if its good or not,,boil some water in a pan, drop the thermostat in and watch to see if it opens(would be a good idea to have a thermometer to see the temp of the water being boiled) good luckHow do I check a car thermostat with boiling water?Did somebody replace the bottom radiator hose by any chance? People are always leaving the springs out of those things and they collapse from the water pump suction.

It's ok to leave thermostat out as a test, but Mazz is an idiot. Thermostats aren't there to cool the engine. They're there to keep the engine hot enough. It would run like crap and emissions would skyrocket if it was too cold.

How hard is it to install a different thermostat?

My house is nearly 60 years old and has one of those in-the -floor heaters. The thermostat thing in the living room is broken and you can turn the heater on and off, but it will not shut itself off when it gets too hot or turn itself on when it gets too cold; it's 100% manual.

Will replacing this part make the heater come on %26amp; off automatically, or is the problem somewhere else? How much does somethign like this cost, and can I do it myself? How hard is it to install a different thermostat? On older homes the floor furnaces are usually milli-volt controlled. Some newer ones did have thermocouples. The wiring is a simple two wire system. Just make sure when purchasing a new T'stat that it does not need an external power source to operate (due to the small voltage produced by milli-volt and thermocouple generators), so that rules out some of the newer digital t'stat's. Yes it should make the furnace operate automatically. Basic t'stat range from 10 to 25 dollars. How hard is it to install a different thermostat? They have instructions inside the box, they come in . You can also replace the old one with a programmable one and that can save you 10-15% on your heating bill. For more info including a replacement guide, check out the thermostat page at my source. How hard is it to install a different thermostat? As long as you are installing the same basic type of t-stat than it is easy. The terminals on the old and new t-stat should be the same so simply power down your system at the breaker and swap wire for wire. Turn your breaker back on and then set your heating and cooling setpoints and your done. The only problem you may encounter is if the new t-stat doen't fit exatly where the old one was. Then you may have to set new anchores and do some touch up painting. How hard is it to install a different thermostat? My father-in-law and I have been installing hydronic baseboard heaters in the house my wife and I recently purchased, and in doing so we have put all new thermostats to control them. Putting new thermostats in your home would fix the problem you're having as long as the wiring was done correct in the first place.

Assuming it was, all you would have to do is turn off the breaker to the heater that is controlled by that particular thermostat. Doing this would essentially cut off power to the thermostat preventing you from being %26quot;bitten%26quot; by the electrical current. After turning off the breaker it is as easy as pulling the old one off of the wall, and attaching the new one as per the directions in the box.

The ones we have installed here can control up to two baseboards, so be sure you know whether or not yours is so you don't get %26quot;bitten%26quot; from the current of another unit.

The best way to know if the problem is somewhere else, in my opinion, is to go ahead and replace the thermostat and see if that fixes it. How much you spend is really up to you, as they range anywhere from $20-80.

My last word of advice is to take the old one with you so you can compare it to new ones or use it to get help from someone who works there. That's the biggest thing I've learned in this past year is to use as many people in the store as you need so that you know for sure you're getting what is best for your home.

I hope this helps! How hard is it to install a different thermostat?Easy, - provided you get the right unit.

How hard is it to install a digital thermostat?

I want to remove my existing 1980's thermostat with a shiny new digital one! How hard would it be? Do I need to do anything to the drywall or does it just hook up the the electrical stuff and snap into place?

Thanks! How hard is it to install a digital thermostat? It is fairly easy. But make sure you buy a six wire unit if you have more then a one stage AC. Most are five wire, two for the heat (red and white) and three for a single stage AC (fan, compressor, and return path). Usually the digital programmable has a bracket plate that attaches to the wall using screws and plastic anchors, the wire are screwed into terminals on that bracket and the actual thermostat click onto the mounting bracket.

Email if you need further advice. How hard is it to install a digital thermostat? You may need to paint behind it if the new one is smaller. And be careful disposing of the old one because usually those contained mercury which is hazardous if you break it. My husband installed ours without any issue; but he is a pretty handy guy so I really don't know if it is something I would have been able to do. I know it came with instructions for installation. We got a programmable one and are so happy we got it!How hard is it to install a digital thermostat?Easy as long as you are not color blind. Use masking tape to mark each wire as you remove it from the old thermostat. Just reconnect according to directions that came with the new one.

Read the new directions carefully before dismantling the old.

How do you replace the Thermostat on a 2001 dodge neon?

I need to replace the thermostat on my 2001 dodge neon. I took it to the shop and that said that something I cant remember needs to be flushed but the thermostat needs to be replaced. How do you replace the Thermostat on a 2001 dodge neon?they was probably talking about the heater core needing flushed out on it and the thermostat you follow the top radiator hose down to the engine to change it out, when you have it done or do it yourself you need to flush out the entire cooling system to get good heat back in it,good luck. How do you replace the Thermostat on a 2001 dodge neon?I've replaced thermostat before and its fairly easy. Hardest part is usually just trying to get access to the d*mn thing. Its Usually its located on the top end of the engine coming/leading to a radiator hose and bolted to the engine itself. All you do is remove the thermostat housing from the engine, pull out the old thermostat and stick a new one in, make sure its facing the same direction, replace the gasket, and close her back up. I wish I could tell you that exact location of the thermo. but don't know that specific model so well...but also a tip; If you plan on doing your own work buy the repair manual for it ($20) (Chilton or Haynes) It also helps with troubleshooting along with how to repair stuff. Lastly your mechanic was probably saying you need a Radiator flush. Wouldn't hurt to do it too.How do you replace the Thermostat on a 2001 dodge neon?Follow the top radiator hose, to the housing on the top of the engine. You will need to drain some of the antifreeze first. Then remove the two bolts holding the housing. Pop that out and then you will find the thermostat. Install the new seal and thermostat, and reinstall the housing. Top off the antifreeze, and then you should be complete. Run the engine and verify you don't have any leaks at the top of the housing.

How much should it cost to replace a thermostat in a cadillac?

My boyfriend has a 2003 Cadillac CTS. His engine light came on and the dealer told him it was his thermostat. They then told him it would cost 544 dollars to replace it. I think its ridiculous! Is that insanely high or do they really cost that much? I know a dealer will always be high but he used to work there and he thought it was under the extended warranty. How much should it cost to replace a thermostat in a cadillac? All I can say is WOW, just WOW. $544! UNBELIEVABLE. A thermostat is about a $20 part. Replacement shouldn't take more than half an hour. Any shop will charge a one hour minimum for the work. Most cars can get away without even draining the radiator, just a top-up at the end.How much should it cost to replace a thermostat in a cadillac?that isnt right, my wife drives a 2004 cts and i dont remember exactly what we paid, but i did it myself its real easy, ans was under 30 dollars i know for sure, im thinking it was right around 20How much should it cost to replace a thermostat in a cadillac?i think is too high but i never worked on a car like that call other places and look around before you do anytrhing back to your question yes i think is to much

  • How low can you safely set your home thermostat?

My house in NE USA will be vacant for several months and wondered if setting the oil furnace thermostat at say 45 deg. F. would cause any problems with furniture, electronics or refrigeration equipment (which will be left on) No plants or animals in house.

The outside air temp may get close to 0 deg. F.How low can you safely set your home thermostat? That's fine, as long as it is above freezing, the water pipes in the house won't freeze and blow up! 45 is goodHow low can you safely set your home thermostat?I would set it at 50 but I would also shut off my water at the main to be on the safe side. Also shut off any exterior petcocks, and after draining them, close them up to keep cold air out. If you have forced hot air, there is no reason to worry about your heating system freezing, and if you have well water, I would also drain down the system, shut off the breakers at the water heater, and drain that down too. Leave yourself a note as to remember what you did to what. Cold wont hurt the house but I wouldn't want expensive electronic equipment such as a plasma TVs in zero degree weather your objective is basically just the pipes, and fixtures such as toilets. In Maine, Our summer home, we drain all toilets, including the bowls and reserve, kill the water, kill the water heater, drain down both the heater and the water pressure vessel deflate the bladder, and blow into the faucets with a shopvac's pressure side to get any water out of the pipes out an open low point (the holding tank) never had a pipe fail yet and never turned on the heat at all.

If your home is heated with water fed radiant baseboard, 55 should be safe, and yes they do make a product to protect freezing.

Any idea how to tell if a thermostat for my gas furnace needs replaced?

I just bought an old house and the furnace has been here over 20 years. I can't afford to replace it this year. Any ideas on how to tell if the thermostat is working or needs replaced?Any idea how to tell if a thermostat for my gas furnace needs replaced?O.K. First off,,, a mercury thermostat is nothing more then an on/off switch to bring on the furnace, it works off of changing temperature warping a piece of bi metal Thu expansion and contraction,,, temp goes up, the mercury goes one way,,, temp goes down mercury goes the other way... depends on what position the heat/cool switch is in for the mercury to send power either to the furnace or the air conditioning... Second,,, since this is just a switch, it can still operate and not control at the temp you set it at if it is out of level or the bi metal is worn out ,,, you may have it set for 70 degrees and it will control at 65 degrees or 75 degrees,,,so don't compare with a another thermometer unless all you want to know is if it is controlling at the set point or not,, set the switch at heat and turn the dial to the highest setting and see if the furnace starts..third,, even if you turn it up and the switch is set to heat,, it could be the furnace that is not working and the thermostat is still doing its job,,,, I believe you need to call a qualified tech.. There should be a fan switch on the thermostat also,, this switch should say fan / auto set it to fan and see if the fan starts,, it it does we know the thermostat is getting power, in this case it probably will be a furnace problem,,,good luckAny idea how to tell if a thermostat for my gas furnace needs replaced?Does it work? would be the first question. If not, have someone that knows what there doing look at it.Any idea how to tell if a thermostat for my gas furnace needs replaced? The thermostat on a furnace that old operates by opening and closing the gas valve directly, it operates on a 24 volt system and should open and close within four degrees of the set point. (if your stat is set at 68 then it should turn on at 64 and off at 72) you can solve this by replacing it with a digital thermostat. You can do this yourself by turning the power off to the furnace and replacing the wires following this code

    Red = power

    White - neutral or heat

    Yellow - cooling

    Green - Fan

Orange - reversing valve on a heat pumpAny idea how to tell if a thermostat for my gas furnace needs replaced?digital or mercury filled?

    digital will click a relay

mercury will show a arc when you move the dial back and forthAny idea how to tell if a thermostat for my gas furnace needs replaced?thermostats will last for the life of the furnace and beyond. Most old ones like yours are just wound bi-metallic strips (a coil made of two different metals that expand and different rates). You can check it by placing a thermometer along side the thermostat and seeing if the furnace kicks on at the temperature at which it is set. It should continue to heat about 2 or 3 degrees above this set point before shutting off. If it does not kick on the contacts that the coil pushes together might be dirty or corroded.Any idea how to tell if a thermostat for my gas furnace needs replaced?First of all. we're talking about gas and that's nothing to go cheap on. in the end it could cost you everything and more! I'm a fair hand with heaters and the Government hired and flew me back in the 70's to install gas hot water heaters and heaters for the people in Johnstown Pa. when they had those three damns break and the water flooded out the town. I was a young teenager back then so when I say gas is something not to reckon with, you can pretty much take that to the bank. The fact that your system is 20 years old, there's a great chance that you should replace some of your system to be safe and have an experience tech to check it for you. In the mean time, you can get an external thermometer and see if it reads the same as your wall stat. This will tell you if your thermostat is still working. PS..A service call is cheaper than replacing your burnt down home or worst. even if money is tight. good luck and keep warm, :)Any idea how to tell if a thermostat for my gas furnace needs replaced?Raise the thermostat one degree above room temp.If you hear the furnace ignite OK if you can't hear it go to the basement and listen at the furnace if on OK.(room temp is the bottom indicator on the thermostat)Make sure all electrical switches are on that pertain to the furnace. also make sure you check the clean out at the base of the chimney.Remove any debris bird nest etc.normally mercury switches last they are sealed so the mercury makes the contact.

How easy is it to install a thermostat in a house?

Our house has no thermostat, just a central heating/hot water timer switch. How easy would it be to have one installed, and how much is it likely to cost? How easy is it to install a thermostat in a house?Unfortunately many heating installers omit wall mounted thermostats as they think that thermostatic radiator valves are sufficient. They do still have a use, in that they can lower the overall temperature during periods of non occupation, which is much better than turning the heating completely off. It is a simple job to install one., it will require 2 or 3 core cable depending on the type selected. Normal stats need 3 core due to having an 'anticipator' in the stat. An electronic type normally only requires two core cable. I recommend a Honeywell CM67rf programmable thermostat for full control, these are available to operate wirelessly from anywhere in the house, which keeps the wiring to the vicinity of the existing controls.

The connections are straight forward and I recommend an Electrician does the job for you.

How to check if central heater or thermostat is the problem for poor heating?

We have central heating, and the second floor (where the bedrooms are) is fine and warm, but our first floor, which is just one long open space divided into a living, dining, and kitchen area, is FREEZING. The thermostat is in the first floor, and when I checked it again last night, it was set to 75 degrees. However, the room temperature reading (again, as it appears on the thermostat) was a constant 65 through out the evening. Is there a way to find out if it's just the thermostat that's broken? Or is it probably our heater that needs to be replaced? How to check if central heater or thermostat is the problem for poor heating?Remove cover on stat. remove red wire and white wire. However, there are numerous items that could be the cause.

#1: Check to ensure the heater is functioning properly. If you are not able, please call a professional. Items to check.....flue, safeties, blower, flame color, gas pressure, etc.

#2: Cycle the T-stat to ensure the heater cycles on and off.

#3:If everything proves OK, then look for volume dampers installed in main trunk which may be directing airflow upstairs. Check that vents are open and that ductwork is attached.
