I am trying to get the heat to come on and can't seem to be able to do it. I believe I have a digital thermostat. There are two switches (on/auto and heat/off/cool plus the switch to make the temperature higher or lower). When I put it on heat or On, cool air blows out. It is set at 59 degrees. Soak these bolts with penetrating oil for a day or two before starting the job, just to be safe, they might be seized up. Have a large drain pan under the engine before you start, because engine coolant will spill. You will probably want to wear rubber gloves when doing this job, as coolant will be spilling and it's a little nasty.
First, loosen radiator cap, then remove it. Unclamp the radiator hose from the thermostat housing, and then twist and pull off the hose. You might need channelock pliers to break the hose loose from the housing flange, many times it is stuck on there good. Be prepared for coolant to spill when the hose comes off, this is where your drain pan comes to the rescue. Now tie the loose end of the radiator hose out of the way, and then remove the two bolts holding the housing to the engine ( 9/16 or 14mm wrench size ).
You will likely see ground wires attached to these bolts, if you break them, be sure to repair them afterwards, or you will have issues with the electrics of the vehicle.
Once the bolts are out, then pull the housing off the engine, you may need to use a large screwdriver for leverage to pop it off. A little more coolant spills at this time.
Remove thermostat from engine, and then clean all traces of old gasket material from the sealing surfaces of the thermostat housing and the engine. Use a razor scraper to do this, which can be bought very cheaply at an auto parts store. Use care when scraping, do not gouge or nick the metal. For stubborn gasket material, spray on some gasket remover spray and let it soak for a while. Use rags to clean and dry off the surfaces.
Once that is done, place the thermostat on the engine with the spring end DOWN. Make sure the thermostat is positioned properly in the recessed area of the engine opening. Then apply the new gasket (which came with the new thermostat) onto the sealing area of the engine. Coat both sides of the gasket with a very thin layer of silicone sealer made for this, available at the auto parts store, before you install it. Then position the thermostat housing on top, and install the two bolts, snug them both down first, then tighten them both a little at a time. This is to ensure that the cover gets tightened down evenly to avoid leaks. Don't forget to put the ground wires back on to those bolts. Then re-clamp the hose on to the cover. Top up the cooling system slowly until it is full, use a 50/50 coolant-water mix, don't just add plain water because it will weaken the strength of your coolant. Then put the rad cap back on, making sure the arrow is pointing to the overflow hose (important).
Start the engine, and let it run until it is at operating temperature. In the meantime, ensure that the thermostat cover is not leaking. When the upper radiator hose is hot, that means the engine is warmed up and that the thermostat is now open, allowing coolant to flow into the radiator.
Shut the engine off, and let it cool off for about 20 minutes or so, then carefully remove rad cap, and top off radiator as required. Top off overflow bottle if required.

the water will run through the radiator .......through the engine...and the hot water will pour out on the ground from the end of the disconnected top radiator hose.
Once it runs clear......shut it down......open up the drains on the radiator to drain out the water and fill it back up with coolant mix.

Our Furnace doesn't come one when we turn the thermostat on, how come?
we replaced the thermostat and still nothing happens. we turn on the thermostat, there's no click. there is electricity going to the unit all around and the pilot is lit. there is only a red and white wire from the furnace to the thermostat, would it be the t-stat wiring? the motherboard? maybe a fuse needs to be replaced? bad blower motor? i don't knowOur Furnace doesn't come one when we turn the thermostat on, how come?If there is a problem with the thermostat you can test by just taking the two wires going to the thermostat and wiring them together.
If the heater doesn't fire then the problem is in the furnace.
If it is an older style Day and Night furnace, look along the top of the furnace for a reset button, that is the blower limit switch.
It stops the 24 volt signal to the gas valve.
Reset the switch, check your filters, and replace if needed.
If a different brand, use a meter and check your limit switches for continuity. Replace or reset the one that is bad (no continuity).

My house has separate furnace and air conditioning systems. The second floor thermostat is the older kind that you have to set to either %26quot;Heat%26quot; or %26quot;Cool%26quot; plus dial it to the desired temperature.

My A/C wasn't working today. I check the unit outside and the pipe running to it was frozen. I turned it off until it completely melted. When I turned it back on it took it 30 minutes to go from 80 degrees to 76. I let it run for 30 minutes at a time until it's now down to 72; which has taken about 4 hours. But when I set the thermostat just to the point where it turns on it will run for 30 minutes and I have to turn it off again because I'm afraid it's going to freeze up again. Check to make sure all your supply vents/dampers are open. Having lots of them closed will also restrict air flow and can lead to icing.
If all those things don't help it is time to call an HVAC tech. It is then likely that the evaporator coil is being starved of refrigerant. This can be caused by a bad/plugged metering device or if your system is low on refrigerant. Only a competent tech can diagnose the problem.

If all those things don't help it is time to call an HVAC tech. It is then likely that the evaporator coil is being starved of refrigerant. This can be caused by a bad/plugged metering device or if your system is low on refrigerant. Only a competent tech can diagnose the problem.

How do you program a Honeywell Thermostat?
I just moved into this house and I do hear it working from the main duct. However, it is not either sucking or blowing any air. All other vents are open but nothing comes out. I don't know how to program it right or something

Installed new thermostat and furnace doesn't turn on?
I installed a new thermostat Honeywell brand bought from home depot, replace a malfunctioning Honeywell I installed about six years ago, same wiring set up W, Y,G, RH. The air conditioning works but the heat will not turn on. Worked well before this.
The fan turns on as well.
Could I have damaged the furnace by not shutting off the power before I installed the new thermostat by allowing wire to touch briefly?
I'm going to put the old thermostat back on and see if the heat comes on.

RTH230B is the new thermostat. The only difference in the wiring is that the red jumper wire between Rc and RH terminals must be used in 3-4 wire installation.

The furnace has 5 wires that goes to the old thermostat and one of the wires is black and labelled 4 on the old thermostat and i cant figure out what to do with it. R is usually red and is usually the hot side of the transformer.

Y is usually yellow and is usually the cooling control (it turns on the outdoor unit).

W is usually white and is usually heat.

My Honeywell magicstat thermostat is not heating the house at the temp it's supposed to. Why?
The furnace comes on sometimes, so I know it's working. I put new batteries in the programmable thermostat just now, and it's still not work. It's subzero outside, and the thermostat is programmed to heat the house to 72, but it's only 64 in here! The thing seems to be stuck on 64 degrees because that's where the temp in the house stays!
