Installed new thermostat and furnace doesn't turn on?

I installed a new thermostat Honeywell brand bought from home depot, replace a malfunctioning Honeywell I installed about six years ago, same wiring set up W, Y,G, RH. The air conditioning works but the heat will not turn on. Worked well before this.

The fan turns on as well.

Could I have damaged the furnace by not shutting off the power before I installed the new thermostat by allowing wire to touch briefly?

I'm going to put the old thermostat back on and see if the heat comes on.

How can I turn on the furnace manually, crossing a few wires?

The furnace is 22 years old, not sure if its electric or gas. Looks electric to me, I use natural gas to heat the home and for the stove.

RTH230B is the new thermostat. The only difference in the wiring is that the red jumper wire between Rc and RH terminals must be used in 3-4 wire installation.

Okay so I crossed the red and white wires, and the furnace kicks on and the airs seems to be warm. So now what???Installed new thermostat and furnace doesn't turn on?Sounds like you have it. Just make sure you are waiting long enough for the heater to kick on after selecting it. Also make sure your temp setting is high enough to kick on heater. Some of the newer ones have a longer delay before turning them on.Installed new thermostat and furnace doesn't turn on?And whats the question? Sounds like you figured it outInstalled new thermostat and furnace doesn't turn on?good trouble shootingInstalled new thermostat and furnace doesn't turn on?Im guessing you didnt jumper RH and RC on the thermostat? R is the 24 volt main power for the t-stat, t-stats have two seperate circuits typically. RH powers heating circuit and RC powers cooling circuit. Seeings as your fan works and your cooling works, you have power. You just havent jumpered the two R's together. Check the installation manual again.Installed new thermostat and furnace doesn't turn on?I had this exact problem and it did not show up until I had to turn the heat on. Call the 800 number and they can help you the instructions were not clear. I remember it had something to do with the r wires.
