Installed new thermostat and furnace doesn't turn on?

I installed a new thermostat Honeywell brand bought from home depot, replace a malfunctioning Honeywell I installed about six years ago, same wiring set up W, Y,G, RH. The air conditioning works but the heat will not turn on. Worked well before this.

The fan turns on as well.

Could I have damaged the furnace by not shutting off the power before I installed the new thermostat by allowing wire to touch briefly?

I'm going to put the old thermostat back on and see if the heat comes on.

How can I turn on the furnace manually, crossing a few wires?

The furnace is 22 years old, not sure if its electric or gas. Looks electric to me, I use natural gas to heat the home and for the stove.

IInstalled new thermostat and furnace doesn't turn on?Hold the bus,It sounds like you mite have a Transformer Gone bad....

Home Depot also sells them. Its a universal Transformer

that changes 110v to 18 or less .An yes your A/C would work an Fan on also .

But trans, converts power an tells threm , to cut gas on

so Unit works, Hopefully...Ok its about as big as a Fist. Its silver an has -2-wires hot an ground 110v . Then out other side-2- wires low volts to thermostat. Be sure to cut Breaker OFF first. an check with meter ,can,t read one side other 110v

This should solve your problem, cut breaker it will short if not very careful.

Good LuckInstalled new thermostat and furnace doesn't turn on?it sounds like you have the wiring figured out. eep the jumper. to get heat, the only one s you really need is RH and W.

if you have a volt meter, check the stepdown transformer like the above answerer said. you should have approx 110 incoming and around 24 volts going out. its possible if you didnt kill all power, it may have shorted out the transformer bc the older furnaces didnt have 3 or 4 amp fuses to blow 1st like they do now.
