How do i install a thermostat on second floor to a forced hot air system?

We have a forced hot air system that is controlled by a thermostat on the first floor. The second floor in the fall and winter is always colder and i'm wondering if i can add a second thermostat upstairs? if not, what else can i do?How do i install a thermostat on second floor to a forced hot air system? The only reasonable way is to make you house a two zone system. Depending on where the piping is, this could be fairly easy or very difficult. You need to discuss you probem with a heating contractor.

With a two zone system you have two thermostats and each controls the flow of water to that zone's heaters. How do i install a thermostat on second floor to a forced hot air system? You can add a thermostat to the second floor but it would just make the downstairs hot. You can add zones for upstairs and down but this can be expesive and require opening up your walls to add electronic dampeners.

There is simple things you can do to balance out the system.

More installation in your attic would be best and save you money

Close vents down stairs. If you dont have closing vents they can be replaced easily with one that does.

If you have access to your heating duct you can add an inline fan for about $30 to pull more air upstairsHow do i install a thermostat on second floor to a forced hot air system?try adjusting your vents.close to closed on the first floor.wide open on the second.allowing more volume of air upstairs.then as time goes by.fine tune it as you live with it.close a little, open a little where needed.p.s.check to see if your attic can use more insulation.a smart investment.good luck.
