How much is a thermostat for a 1979 Mercedes Benz 300D?

I have a MB 1979 MB with low mileage (85K orig.) and I would like to keep it running %26quot;forever%26quot;. I am pretty sure I have a bad thermostat. It overheats but not into the %26quot;red%26quot;.How much is a thermostat for a 1979 Mercedes Benz 300D?napa sells them for 42 dollars, but im inclined to agree with uthockeyHow much is a thermostat for a 1979 Mercedes Benz 300D?Depends on the engine serial number. Benz used 2 different thermostats on the non-turbo 5-cylinder M617 diesel.

Call up your Benz dealer with your VIN number to find out.How much is a thermostat for a 1979 Mercedes Benz 300D?Dealer list is $27.00 bucks. However that is not your problem. My guess is you have a plugged radiator. How much is a thermostat for a 1979 Mercedes Benz 300D?i'd suggest you drain the water and refill it, and check whether the capacity of the rad has dropped... which means the vanes are blocked... and if you want to check the thermostat, just drop it in a pan of boiling water... if it doesnt open, or doesnt appear to open, then its scrap... average price of a thermostat is 3 quid... (you dont need a mercedes badged thermostat)

good news is you can clear the rad yourself with a wweal solution of caustic soda, or Cillit Bangs.. though ive never used it... fill it up, run it for about 20 minutes, and drain and flush the water system.. refil and check anti freeze levels...
