How to fix the current temperature on an electric thermostat?

My electric thermostat in my rental won't go on and off like its suppose to. It also says its the wrong temp. 70 when its 60 for example. I replaced the batteries but still no luck. I can't leave it on at night because it won't shut off. Then when I wake in the morning all my preset temps are gone like it was turned off. My landlord was suppose to look at it but he is lazy and hasn't. Anyone got an idea how to fix it?How to fix the current temperature on an electric thermostat?Write the landlord a letter telling him the date the problem started, the date you told him, and how long it has been since you complained. Tell him that he has 24 hours to fix it or you will call a repairman and take the cost out of your rent. If you have to get a repair guy, make sure you give the landlord a photocopy of the receipt, not the original.

Don't make repairs yourself, if something goes wrong, it will be your fault, and you will have to pay to fix it, even if what you did isn't the problem, because you didn't get landlord approval, or a qualified repairman.

You cannot just withhold rent. There is a legal way to do it, but you have to try other ways to solve the problem first. How to fix the current temperature on an electric thermostat?you may have a bad wall thermostat. sometimes they can fail by not sensing the proper temps. if so it could do anything from overheating or not heating at all. i would ask your landlord again to fix it and put it in writing to him. that way you have proof that you have a complaint. if he still doesnt do anything then you can withhold rent payments legally until he does get it fixed. not much you can do yourself unless you want to buy a new wall thermostat and try to install it. if it doesnt fix it then you are going to be stuck with the bill. How to fix the current temperature on an electric thermostat?Sounds like your landlord has a timing device installed to shut your t-stat, leaving you with no control of the temp settings. It's a common practice.
