My thermostat went out,in my trailer and i tried to install another one,but it wouldnt work.

It use to have a heat pump,it quit so i disconected it about 2 yrs ago,so ive just got electric heat.some one told me to use 2 wires only, but i cant seem to find wich one it is,they wanted 200 dollars to put one in i cant afford that, thanks. How to install a thermostat on a electric furnace?wish i knew what type of t-stat you're putting in , on the old tstat find the w2 and r terminal whichever wires are in them reuse them in same terminal in the new one. this is a complicated problem because the white wire would power the heat pump so the emergengy or aux heat would be powered by a left over wire no color in particular really need to see what you have going on with the wires...kingjeremyd@yahoo.com if you could just tell more about itHow to install a thermostat on a electric furnace? The only two wires you need are the red and white wires for an on-off thermostat. You can even hook them up backwards and it will still work. Your heat pump installation probably used seven conductor wire with green, brown, blue and yellow wires in it. Ignore them. How to install a thermostat on a electric furnace?Wires are usually color coded in conjunction with thermostats. Keep this in mind along with previous answer.
