How do i work a reptile thermostat?

How do i work a reptile thermostat?

i just recently bought my thermostat, i understand what to do... but the problem is, it doesn't have the numbers on it. It just goes by the arrow, and i dont know where the temperatures are at, how do i know what temperature to put on thermostat when it doesnt have any numbers to let you know.. Can anyone please help me? im getting a royal python soon, and im plugging my thermostat on the heat mat at night, so it will stay at a certain temperature,How do i work a reptile thermostat?I would recommend leaving a warm spot for the BP all the time. If you are trying to rely on a heat lamp for during the day, don't bother. Ball Pythons do not bask. Ever. They cannot utilize heat from above.

If you have a link to the type of thermostat you bought, that would be helpful. Is it a high end one like Ranco or Johnson?

If it has no display to tell the temperature, it may be more like a rheostat. You will need a separate thermometer with a probe on it so you will know what temperature the hot spot is. Something like this:

Then you just adjust the heat up and down until the thermostat levels off at the right temperature, ~90 degrees F.
