How to wire a thermostat to a 220 volt baseboard heater?

Thermostat has two red wires %26amp; two black wires. The baseboard has one red %26amp; one black wire. How to wire a thermostat to a 220 volt baseboard heater? That thermostat is a two pole switch.

(It opens both lines). Just follow the color codes.

Your incoming 'line` might be a two wire run, (Black, White, + Gnd.).

In this case just treat that white as a 'Line' wire, (Red).

It Should be marked, but sometimes they don't do it.

Black, (Line) to Black, T (Stat).

Black (T Stat), to Black (Heater).

Same for the Reds.

The T Stat. should be marked 'Line' %26amp; 'Load' if it matters

with that unit.

Some Cautions:

1. Don't try to work it 'live'.

2. If the line wires are black %26amp; white, be sure that

you have a 240V. circuit. -(Two pole breaker).

3. Coil your 'pigtails' (connecting wires), so that the

insulation doesn't contact the hot parts of the heater. How to wire a thermostat to a 220 volt baseboard heater?Apparently what you have is a line voltage thermostat, which, in effect, means that it will handle most any voltage you need to use to control the device to which it will be attached. These differ from the normal furnace thermostat in that they, (the normal thermo's), only use 24 volts, which is supplied by a transformer on the gas control valve in the furnace itself, to power the thermostat. As the previous answerers have said, bring the power in color for color if possible, (although the line coming from the double breaker may be black and white as opposed to red and black). If so, just match the black to black and red to white, ground to ground, of course. Then the same going out to the heater and you're good to go. How to wire a thermostat to a 220 volt baseboard heater?Shut off the breaker. Bring incoming power, your black and red from the breaker, to one of the reds and one of the blacks on your stat, color for color. This is the line side of this stat. Take 2 wires, a red and a black, from the remaining stat wires to the red and the black on the heater, color for color. This is the load side of the stat. Turn on the breaker.
