Is it possible to fit a thermostat to a towel rail yourself?

We have a towel rail in our bathroom that is permenantly hot when the central heating is on because there is no thermostat on it. We dont use the bathroom because there's only two of us living in the house and we have a shower room, so it is a complete waste of energy! Any one know if its possible to fit a thermostat DIY and if so, how to go about it?

Cheers,

Jayne xxxIs it possible to fit a thermostat to a towel rail yourself? You may be able to find an inline Thermostatic Valve with the same dimensions as the currently fitted one.

But if you don't use the towel rail, why not just isolate it using the existing valves?

If you were to fit the thermostatic valve. You would need to drain down your heating system, remove the existing valve and replace with a thermostatic valve, then refil and bleed the system.

If your not sure, get a plumber, you could end up with a flood.

Good luck.Is it possible to fit a thermostat to a towel rail yourself? Its possible, it depends on how it is piped.

It may not be able to be isolated on its own without re-piping.

Wouldn't recommend this as a DIY project. Is it possible to fit a thermostat to a towel rail yourself?there should be valve on the towel rail to allow you to turn the water supply off, you made need some pliers %26amp; a strong gripIs it possible to fit a thermostat to a towel rail yourself?if there are thermostats on your other rads it is not recomended that you fit one to the towel rail as this is usually set up as a bypass, so if all thermostats shut down you still have water flow through the boiler. Without a full inspection of your system to check if the boiler has an internal bypass or if there is one on the system somewhere don't turn the valves off either, It could damage your system.

hope this helps
