How does a lower temperature engine thermostat affect performance?

I have a 97 Wrangler and i was wondering what type of thermostat i should get to increase performance. How does a lower temperature engine thermostat affect performance? The thermostat is designed to have your engine operating at the correct temperature for the engineering tolerances it was built to.

Use the correct thermostat.

if your engine temperature is too low and you are not reaching correct operating levels you will wear out the engine and it will not perform properly.

If the temperature is too high you face the risk of thin oil and pistons seizure.

Who ever suggested that you can get better performance by changing to a non standard thermostat needs to go back to school. How does a lower temperature engine thermostat affect performance?Go by your manual. Too early opening of the thermostat can result in cooler coolant than normal, which would not keep the engine at optimal operating temperature. Conversely, too high a temp will also do the same. You can affect performance by other 'tweaks' more safe to do.How does a lower temperature engine thermostat affect performance? The lower temp thermostat will affect your emissions more than performance. Lowering the temperature of the intake air will effect greater performance. How does a lower temperature engine thermostat affect performance?A lower temperature thermostat improves performance because the engine will run cooler. In some cases that what is best but in the winter you want 195 rather than 160 or else you get much heat out of the vents .How does a lower temperature engine thermostat affect performance? If your thermostat is malfunctioning then a lower set temp will not give you actuall conditions. First check whether the thermostat fitted is compatible with your cars recommended temp limits.

Best of luckHow does a lower temperature engine thermostat affect performance? It should have a 195 degree thermostat. The engine is computer controlled. The engine must have this temperature to control fuel mixture properly. If you are looking to increase the horsepower look into increasing air intake and exhaust flow.Let her breathe.Don't forget,it's just a six cylinder.
