How to attach an AC fan to a thermostat?

I am planning on building a reptile cage, and i have seen people use AC fans and connect them to everyday thermostats. I am not able to find an answer anywhere, so i thought id ask here. How would i go about cutting wires and where to attach them to thermostat/outlet and such. The AC fan plugs directly into wall, but i know id have to cut a wire of to and reconnect them to thermostat, but how?How to attach an AC fan to a thermostat?ask at the pet store
