How hard is it to install a digital thermostat?

I want to remove my existing 1980's thermostat with a shiny new digital one! How hard would it be? Do I need to do anything to the drywall or does it just hook up the the electrical stuff and snap into place?

Thanks! How hard is it to install a digital thermostat? It is fairly easy. But make sure you buy a six wire unit if you have more then a one stage AC. Most are five wire, two for the heat (red and white) and three for a single stage AC (fan, compressor, and return path). Usually the digital programmable has a bracket plate that attaches to the wall using screws and plastic anchors, the wire are screwed into terminals on that bracket and the actual thermostat click onto the mounting bracket.

Email if you need further advice. How hard is it to install a digital thermostat? You may need to paint behind it if the new one is smaller. And be careful disposing of the old one because usually those contained mercury which is hazardous if you break it. My husband installed ours without any issue; but he is a pretty handy guy so I really don't know if it is something I would have been able to do. I know it came with instructions for installation. We got a programmable one and are so happy we got it!How hard is it to install a digital thermostat?Easy as long as you are not color blind. Use masking tape to mark each wire as you remove it from the old thermostat. Just reconnect according to directions that came with the new one.

Read the new directions carefully before dismantling the old.
