Recently moved into a newer home. It has 2 thermostat's but one AC and Heater, how do I use it?

The house was built in 2004. The HVAC units are both Carrier, and the Thermostat's are made by Honeywell. It is a two story, one thermostat is downstairs, the 2nd is up. I have no documentation and I am trying to figure out how to regulate the temperature so that both floors are the same temperature.Recently moved into a newer home. It has 2 thermostat's but one AC and Heater, how do I use it?Try turning on the air conditioning from the downstairs thermostat with the upstairs thermostat shut off. If nothing happens, you most likely have what is called a High-Low configuration. Meaning The downstairs thermostat controls the heating, and the upstairs controls the cooling.

One of them (usually the upstairs) is the master thermostat which will control the fan. It also sends power to the downstairs thermostat to control the temperature during heating. (Only when upstairs stat is set to heat).

Sound Confusing? Hope that helps, DanRecently moved into a newer home. It has 2 thermostat's but one AC and Heater, how do I use it?Sounds like the house is zoned, that is so cool. Since you haven't' said exactly what the thermostats look like, I would assume they have arrow buttons on them in which you can regulate the temperature.Recently moved into a newer home. Keep in mind that hot air rises, so by setting the t-stat lower upstairs it may still maintain the same temp as the floor below without it needing to call for heat.Recently moved into a newer home. The thermostat controls a zone damper for that area.

Just set the temp. and it should maintainRecently moved into a newer home. It has 2 thermostat's but one AC and Heater, how do I use it?If the HVAC vents haven't been calibrated, always remember that hot air rises and cold air drops. In the summer time you can adjust the upstairs to the temperature you want, leaving the downstairs one slightly higher. In the winter time the downstairs can be set to the desired temp and the upstairs can be left slightly lower. You should have the system calibrated for the dampers and blower motors.Recently moved into a newer home. It has 2 thermostat's but one AC and Heater, how do I use it?Each system has its own thermostat-if there is no door on the stair way the upstairs aircondited air is heavy and will fall down the stairway--where as in the winter time heated air is light and rises--so getting two systems on seperate floors to stay at the same temperature -can be difficult! A door on a stair way helps seperates the 2 areas; The up stairs areas are usually warmer in the winter' because hot air rises --heats up the ceiling whicn in turn heats up the upstairs floor [ most ceiling have NO insulation in them}! Design of operating systems can help down play the temterature differance somewhat! I prefer to keep the upstairs cooler; makes for better sleeping!
